On a separate note… anyone ever experience thinking their site had been hit by an algorithm update and it was actually a penalty? Or vice versa? What did you do in that situation?

I was surely hit on a non-gaming site with algorithm updates – but if a penalty is only a manual adjustment, I doubt they ever got to me.

But I guess I am one of those rare people that do not use google webmaster tools on all my sites. I use a different stats program that works better for me.

So it would be really hard to contact me that way and tell me!

Sure, no problem

statcounter.com

It’s usually the first thing I look at.
It works best for me because I have lots of sites.
