I have few basic questions about the importance of the domain name in relation to SEO.
I am not sure if this is the place to ask and if this is at all the kind of information people tend to share.
i am new to this stuff and before I buy some domains I will appreciate if you could let me in on what kind of domain names are better for SEO:
1. What is better- with or without dashes? (example: besthotels or best hotels)
2. Does the order matter? (ex: besthotels or hotelsbest).
3. What is the importance of .com verses .net verses .org verses the rest?
4. The shortness of the name? ex: hotels-best-hotels-best
5. Anything else?
Thank you for your help!

The hyphen’s don’t get typed in but single hyphen’s are often superior to wordstogether. You don’t have to get into a mantra of “remember the hyphen” and it becomes a non-issue if you just aim wordstogether.com at words-together.com
A short catchy name is likely not as good as a hyphenated one as far as SEO goes, unless you can afford gambling.com
A short catchy name is good for branding, and that is a totally different business model from what most portals do now.
Branding takes time and money – and you better have lots of at least one of those two factors.
After over 2 years of branding GamesandCasino gets about 60% of visits from bookmarks and people typing the name in. So I still need the engines, but not so much. It’s not even such a short name, but people can remember it.
It is a lot easier and faster to make $ with an seo site than a branded one. Of course you optimize the branded one also. Just that the name will be less helpful.
Take casinomeister. Not a seo word, except for the branding.
They are both valid ways of marketing online, but they require a different approach and branding is certainly not an easy or fast way to go.
