June 10, 2009 (CAP Newswire) — France’s goal to open up its online gambling market to competition is on track to be implemented by January 1, 2010. However, the European Commission has asked French lawmakers to modify and clarify several points in the draft law before then, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The changes are fairly minor. When authorizing competing operators, authorities are being requested to take into account the demands those operators already face in their established countries. There is also a request to impose limits on the maximum proportion of bets paid back to players.
