What’s SEO to you?

M.D asked 4 years ago
Making a living out of the internet, we all heard about SEO.
What do you feel about Search Engine Optimization? I know this is a very controversial even among those who title themselves as “SEO Experts”

It’s a lot of hard damn work!

Your poll questions are a bit odd, but I can attest that SEO works. Not just in this industry, but for any website that is able to monetize traffic. Guess I’m not really sure what you are trying to ask. SEO definitely works to attract traffic, but you have to be smart about it and work very hard to get the right traffic and convert it.

My option seems to be missing, I’m not expert, but I’m studying, and optimizing as I can.

Hi,

frankly I don’t know how you make it in this niche without it nowadays, though I say that not being worth a damn at it.

I’m really struggling despite having found unique ways around the gambling ad ban with most the big PPCs and I imagine that’s true for most that don’t rely on SEO.

I know enough about seo that I could probably rank okay in any niche that doesn’t have so much competition (because whether you want to learn it or not; you pick some stuff up along the way when you’re surrounded by so many smart people … thank you folks at CAP) and I used to get a little free traffic since my rantings covered so many different areas of our industry but that fell off and I think what has happened to me is the scrapers have a much better link system built up so they’re basically using my content and combining it with their better link system and getting the traffic that I otherwise would have gotten.

I tried to keep the poll options as low as i could. I visit SE forums from time to time and have seen way to many opinions and arguments among SEO experts. I was wondering what the people here at CAP feel about SEO.

Does the term SEO scares them?, encourage them to learn?. Do they believe it works?

I believe that if we will dig deeper into it we will get very different results.. maybe even surprising about what people really think is the actual implementation of SEO. But at the moment, i think the first poll should be shallower as i posted it.

Eventually, I hope to have a thread here on CAP about SEO tips where members can help each other. We can all benefit reading such articles here if they are based on the poster’s actual experience.

Personally, i believe SEO is way out of proportion. I feel that it is given more weight than actual content and that will not work.

Though I’m not the SEO expert I claimed to be at the poll, but I have plenty of experience in this tricky field, and I can honestly say that in businesses less competitive than gambling it works like a charm. Casino SEO is a different story altogether.

In a perfect world SEO features shouldn’t take precedence over actual content but be it – otherwise it’s just spam with a new title. The problem is, however, that search engines (especially Google, but also Yahoo) which in fact dictate the unwritten rules of SEO, can’t abide by the standards they presume to set and often reward spammers; although only for a short period, but long enough to rake nice profits.

Yahoo, for example, evaporated for over 10 months a website that was completely legit, for no apparent reason while rogue sites that were slapped together in eight and half minutes of content-thieving have been starring back at me from the search results as innocent as angels. The bottom line is, search engines are not pulling their weight to keep lawful SEO strategies from deteriorating and trashing the web.

I’m against spam, period. But search engines need to wake up before all of us are tired of playing nice, and the internet will become just one big junk mail folder.

I voted for “Just a big title that has been taken way out of proportion.” I don’t believe in self titled seo experts. SEO is so broad and chaotic I find it next to impossible to nail down with accurancy. However, I do agree there are common seo optimization techniques. greek39

Sure relevant content is all nice and dandy but let’s face reality, there’s millions of pages that feature online casinos. The only way the search engines decide which is better is by using algos. To get on top of the pile a person has to SEO as to be friendly to the algos. This isn’t the case if someone looks up ‘online casinos by microgaming in spain’ but it is the case if you want to rank top 10 for ‘casinos’.
