As for them not acting on law, do you think $3.2mil can be taken from someone with no law to back it up?

    That was state law.

And of course google can afford it, it’s just not profitable enough to be worth the expense and trouble.

Google can’t afford to take on the DOJ?

Google can financially afford too of course … but it’s hardly the most responsible corporate attitude to take. Google have other battles to fight the US (and Chinese) governments on – and this is simply one that it is pragmatic to avoid.

To an outsider (and I’m as far away from the US as you cna get on the planet) it seems to me that there is no specific federal law that specifically says online gambling is illegal despite the DOJ grumblings to the contrary.

Antiquated “wire” laws are waved around – but there is little doubt that the State of Washington didn’t consider them effective and drafted their own local statutes.

To me that speaks volumes about the complexity and grayness of the existing federal statutes. Next they’ll be dredging up some old RIVERBOAT GAMBLING act from 1892 !!!
    :hehe:

The native American lobby groups are simply seeing a cash cow as Americans are hooked on gambling – and want to restrict the competition.

They’ve turned it from a factual debate into a morale crusade (something god-fearing senators love) and yet it’s obvious that gambling is NOT the real issue – as more and more land based casinos are planned, constructed and built.

(without getting into the horse industry and state lotteries etc).

However, the “moral majority” of the senate see this as a great ticket to jump onto as Gambling is Badl is seen as a truism as much as home land security, Weapons of mass destruction (while having an Arsenal of over 1,000 nuclear weapons at home).

So is it REALLY illeagal now?

Probably not yet (outside Washington State) … but it soon will be as this movement will sweep across the US.
    :sarcasm:
