March 8, 2006 at 10:53 pm #685743AnonymousInactiveThank you Lou for posting this article. I have a feeling after reviewing all that I read online about this new bill that there is a good chance it will pass this time.

The Interactive Gaming Council, for now, still retains Greenberg Traurig LLP, Mr. Abramoff’s old firm. Sportingbet.com has retained Washington lobbying heavyweight Patton Boggs LLP. A grass-roots organization, called the Poker Players Alliance, also is working against the ban.
March 10, 2006 at 2:54 pm #685893AnonymousInactiveI do not think it will pass.
March 15, 2006 at 2:01 am #686290AnonymousGuestfrankly I was amazed at the number of people against banning it.
Far more than I had hoped even considering I’m sure a number of people like myself gave their 2cents worth from here, … it still is basically an unbiased poll which tells me that if the numbers make themselves heard then I think there is hope on the horizon.

Actually I’m not surprised at the numbers – but neither does it make me think it has that much influence. That was a “home ground” poll.
People with internet access could be broadly said to have been exposed to international ideas and thinking and therefore will question the rights of government to ban a basic right.
The battle will be to win over the hearts and minds of those people who do not have internet access – and who have no REAL idea about it. They’re being told that the internet is a den of under-age and problem gambling that creates great debt and problems upon the American people.
Of course that’s just spin – but think of how many things that govenrments have been able to do by managing spin – and gettting the temporary approval of “the people”.
:withstupiIt’s not the nerds, web-wired or business folk that need to be convinced. It’s the down home blue collar people, the elderly aunt, the god-fearing church attender that is being fed an orchestrated litany of lies.
Keep spreading the word …
