US Presidential Elections
On November 4, America picks a new president. The Republican Party candidate is John McCain, the, Senator from Arizona as its nominee; the Democratic Party has chosen Barack Obama, Senator from Illinois, as its nominee. The 2008 election is the first time in U.S. history that two sitting senators will run against each other for president, and because it is the first time an African American is a presidential nominee for a major party with African American candidate Barack Obama, who is of mixed African and Caucasian parentage.
The eventual winning ticket is very likely to have a historic context, as either the first African American will be elected President along with the first Roman Catholic as Vice President or the oldest President (McCain is 72 years old) will be elected with the first woman Vice President.
Ladbrokes are running a market on the eventual winner! For more info if you wish to promote this click here.

October 22, 2008 at 12:57 pm #783510BenithoMemberOnly three English clubs are in Uefa Cup action this week and all face tough fixtures as the group stage enters its first round of fixtures.
While Manchester City enjoy a Thursday night off, the other Premier League representatives will find no time to relax.
Aston Villa (4/6) face arguably their toughest test in Group F as four-time European Cup winners Ajax (10/3) come to town.
While the Dutch giants currently lie tenth in Holland’s Eredivisie, they have plenty of players that can cause Martin O’Neill’s side problems.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is a Dutch international with an impressive 71 goals in 85 games for the club – he is 8/1 to silence Villa Park with the opener.
Villa seem due a goal glut, after their early-season scoring rate has slowed with just one goal in their last three matches.
The power-and-pace partnership of man mountain John Carew and whippet-quick Gabby Agbonlahor has already accounted for ten goals this season in all competitions – the pair are both priced at 9/2 to break the deadlock for the Midlanders.
While Villa can enjoy some home comforts, beleaguered Tottenham Hotspur (11/5) face a trip to high-flying Italian side Udinese (evens).
Spurs are still rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after a nightmare start to the season which has failed to produce a league win.
In contrast, Udinese are just two points behind leaders Inter Milan at the top of Serie A and are unbeaten at home in the league.
However, a diversion from the misery of their domestic campaign could be what the north London outfit needs and first choice striker Darren Bent is 6/1 to fire Spurs ahead in the absence of Cup-tied Roman Pavyluchenko.
Spurs, who narrowly saw off Wisla Krakow in the first round, are 11/5 to come away with a point.
Meanwhile, European rookies Portsmouth (7/5) travel to Portugal again to face Sporting Braga (6/4), having disposed of Guimares in the last stage of the competition.
Little-and-large strike force Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch have scored all but two of Pompey’s goal in all competitions this season – Defoe is 11/2 to open the scoring while Crouch, who bagged a brace last time out in Portugal, is priced at 8/1.
Should Harry Redknapp decide to save his frontline pair for Sunday’s league fixture with Fulham, Nwankwo Kanu could be a good shout to make his first of the season the opening goal.
The south coast outfit, who could br without the injured midfield duo with Lassana Diarra and Richard Hughes, should be weary of Brazilian centre forward Jorginho – the ex-Porto frontman could partner Cameroon international Albert Meyong Ze up front and the two are both 7/1 to score first.
Will Spurs surprise in-form Udinese?
October 30, 2008 at 10:20 am #784738BenithoMemberWith the year’s majors done and dusted, the top players on the European Tour will be turning their attention to the Order of Merit standings ahead of this week’s Volvo Masters in Spain.
The tournament, which starts on Thursday (October 30th) is the last event on this season’s schedule and a final opportunity to gain places in the all-important money list.
A three-way battle for the Order of Merit crown will be fought by current leader Robert Karlsson (12/1), this year’s double major winner Padraig Harrington (10/1) and third place Lee Westwood (16/1), who is still in with a slim chance of nicking the title.
Harrington knows that if he wins the Volvo Masters, there is nothing Karlsson can do to stop him from bagging a first Order of Merit, but conceded that his Swedish rival is the man in form, having won the Mercedes-Benz Championship and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship recently.
He commented: “If I win the tournament, I win the Order of Merit so that’s what’s in my mind for the week. Robert has played great all year. I think he’s been very motivated on working on the right things the last couple of years and really has brought his game to a new level. If he wins on Sunday, he thoroughly deserves it.”
Justin Rose (25/1) is defending champion in Valderrama and has fond memories of winning both the tournament and the Order of Merit.
The British number two is out of the race this time around but is still eager to defend what was the fourth European Tour title of his career.
European Ryder Cup representative Rose said: “It was huge for me to receive the Harry Vardon Trophy. It’s a season-long challenge that tests all your skills and demands consistency. Obviously I can’t win the Order of Merit this time but the Volvo Masters is a huge tournament to win too.”
Rose would become the first player to successfully defend the Volvo Masters in the 20-year history of the event.
While all eyes will be on the three-way tug-of-war for the Order of Merit, the man to beat in Andalucia is arguably home favourite Sergio Garcia (5/1), who if fresh from his triumph at last week’s Castello Masters.
The European number one has taken a tournament on either side of the Atlantic this year and has been in contention at several majors – there will be few who can live with his prodigious talent if Garcia gets going
And what about Ian Poulter (16/1)? The attention-courting Englishman grabbed a runner-up place this year at the Open Championship and demonstrated his ability to play under pressure again in the Ryder Cup, finishing as leading scorer on either side with four points.
Don’t rule out a challenge from fellow Brits Ross Fisher (16/1) and Graeme McDowell (40/1), who have both added to their trophy cabinets this year – European Ryder Cup team members Paul Casey (25/1) or Rory McIlroy (33/1) are also participating.
Paul Lawrie, 1999 Open champion, has enjoyed something of a resurgence of late – the Scot is 100/1 to follow-up his second place finish at this month’s Portugal Masters with his first European Tour title since 2002.
Will Paddy pip Karlsson at the post?
