US could appeal Internet Gambling Rule
The dispute between Antigua and Barbuda, and the US, could lead to a decision by the World Trade Organisation. If the decision falls in favour of Antigua and Barbuda, the United States will probably appeal, according to a US official on Tuesday.
The dispute about Internet gambling failed to be cleared up in a series of talks held last week, at the end of which Antigua and Barbuda said it would ask the WTO organisation to intervene.
The US claims internet gambling should be prohibited because it violates US state laws, but Antigua and Barbuda says the position is contrary to global trading laws. The WTO will rule on the issue, but if a country feels it has been unfairly supported it can appeal a decision.
This dispute comes at a time when both the US and the UK are talking about reviewing gambling laws on a wider basis.
