I’ll write an article about this to my blog too. I’m sure I get quite a few readers who will be interested in helping.
April 16, 2007 at 2:55 pm #734069AnonymousInactiveKarim,
I just signed your petition and am waiting for confirmatory post.
This am, mine was the 41st signature – come on people – not interested?
I can post this on my home pages. Is everyone else doing this?
Post the link and any text you want and I’ll get it up.

we have also written an article that explains the ‘Public Outcry Campaign’. It features 5 talking points to bring up when calling your representative.
For those of you that can, please write on your blogs, portals, forums, or news sites about the campaign.
For those of you that can, please contact all affiliate managers and explain that they can send out an email to all of their US players with links to these articles.
For those of you that can, please contact the Poker Player Alliance and demand that they support this campaign.
April 17, 2007 at 1:13 am #734136AnonymousInactiveI have placed a link on my 3 sites CGW. I will also do a mailer with the link. Terrific efforts and something we must do together, now.
Thanks,
MojoApril 17, 2007 at 1:24 am #734138supervinceMemberI have about 4200 subscribers to my list. I estimate about half are from the US and maybe people that aren’t from the US would be willing to sign it as well. I don’t stay up on all the politics and stuff like that and I’m not a very “persuasive” writer but if someone here is willing to write up a short email explaining to my subscribers why they should sign the petition then I would be willing to send it. Every time I send a mailout I get at least 300-500 visitors to my website from the list within 2 days. I could write up my own email and send it but we might see better results if a professional writes it. Just let me know.
April 17, 2007 at 1:39 am #734142richardb582MemberOK, I wrote a quick run down of the situation on my sports arbitrage trading blog with links to the CGW article, the petition, the list of congressmen and a video clip of barney Frank talking before the law was enacted. He made some really good points in that speech, and hopefully people will actually listen this time.
April 17, 2007 at 1:40 am #734143AnonymousGuestHello gamblers in the states:
NOW is the chance to speak your minds and make difference! This opportunity may not come again.
Write your congressperson …. or follow the links provided to make a difference. This time next year you can be enjoying your favorite hobby in a manner that is convenient …. or still be jumping through unnecessary hoops all in order to do what you want anyway.
Its your right to do with your own money on your own time what you choose. NOW is the time to make this known and have it carry weight. It might be a slight inconvenience now in trade for what will likely be much greater inconvenience later. Speak up for your right to do what you choose in the privacy of your own home now while you have the chance!
you will need to add the proper links etc .. but its a start if anybody is interested …
best luck to us all on this issue.

Get with me on IM before you do though.
April 17, 2007 at 3:49 am #734152AnonymousInactiveI will be sending out this info to all of my mailing lists in the next couple of days, which is over 15,000 all together. Not sure how many will pay attention, but I would guess a couple thousand will be interested and perhaps join the fight.
April 17, 2007 at 5:07 am #734155AnonymousInactiveI wrote a request to MoveOn.org to see if they might bring this issue up with their 3,000,000 members. They had a profound effect mobilizing people in the last election. Maybe if more of us write to them they will listen and put the repeal of the UIEGA on their agenda.
Here’s a link to contact them:
http://pol.moveon.org/feedback/fb/form.html?tp=suggestHere’s what I wrote:
Hello, I’m not sure exactly how this works, but I’ve been a member of MoveOn.org for awhile now and have come across an issue that is important to me that I think may be important to many other members.
Late last year, just minutes before Congress broke for the recess ahead of their election campaigns, the Republicans attached the UIEGA to the unrelated Port Security Bill. This has created what is commonly referred to as Prohibition II, except this affects online gambling rather than alcohol.
While the tactics used to get the bill passed are unscrupulous enough on their own merit, the reason I am writing is to see if MoveOn.org would be willing to alert their members of this Bill and the fact that there is now a movement underway to repeal this prohibition.
Barny Frank has come out against the Bill and is considering legislation to repeal the UIEGA. However, Senator Frank is only going to pursue this course of action if there is enough public outcry.
You can view an article related to this at:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/12/AR2007041200961.htmlSome of the reasons to do this (that I could think of off the top of my head).
– Keep America free…which includes the freedom of choice
– Avoid an EU challenge to the law at the WTO
– Censorship of websites should not be allowed (as proposed in this legislation)
– Reduce the burden this places on the banking industry, keeping them from passing the fees along to their customersApril 17, 2007 at 5:39 am #734159AnonymousInactiveHere is a list of a bunch of other sites you may want to let know about this movement. Their email addresses for the most part can be found somewhere on the page. I am writing all of them, as I have also written moveon and a few others not listed here. The more emails these places receive asking for promotion of this subject the better chance we have of them picking it up and writing about it. Many of you have asked me how you can help, well this is great way to help if you don’t have a way of doing so otherwise. You don’t have to write all of them, even if you write 5 or 3 or 2 or 1 is better than 0.

http://www.rawstory.com/April 17, 2007 at 8:09 pm #734263AnonymousInactiveDoes anyone know of a good petition script for wordpress? We have started adding content to the site and it can temporarily be viewed here: http://www.repealuigea.com/blog I will move it as soon as I find a better solution for the petition.
The other alternative would be to link to a better petition page that maybe already has collected a lot of signature any feedback would really be appreciated.
April 17, 2007 at 8:50 pm #734269AnonymousInactivepearl, I have looked into this all weekend and I have found out a couple things…
I believe the petition should be run through http://www.petitiononline.com/create_petition.html which hosts the petition for you. If we want this to be as big as it needs to be it has to be able to handle hundreds of thousands of signatures on a host that moves quickly.
The petition also needs to have a strong written arguement, and once that arguement/petition is formed it can never be changed. Also, the petition should be hand delivered to Barney Frank or another congressman once it is complete. The petition can run indefinately, but it needs to be promoted by everyone, not just one site so that it reaches millions of players, not just a few.
The following is an arguement of one of our writers as what the basis of the petition should be (I’m personally not sure how this should be formed or worded but I am still researching)…
As an American, I am outraged to learn that Congress has passed legislation that will severely restrict my ability to have certain freedoms in my own home.
Unfair passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is clearly designed to restrict the freedoms of voters who sent you to office to represent them, and prevent us from making mature decisions about how we spend our leisure time and money.
I am further outraged to learn that the bill was added at a late hour to the Safe Port Security Bill without the ability of debate and only 15 minutes prior to a vote on a must pass bill.
It is improper for Congress to declare itself the overseer of American Morals and to enact legislation that dictates ideology instead of common sense.
The United States, in so enacting this law, has willfully violated World Trade Organization rules and the WTO has ruled against the United States on this issue, in favor of the country of Antigua. Now the European Union is considering similar action as this is seen globally as protectionism.
I urge you to use your considerable power and influence to ensure that this unfair legislation is repealed post haste, and our right to freedom is preserved.
I acknowledge by signing this petition that I agree to a repeal of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
