We did it to the mighty Soviet Union and China and India will be no different. Money and greed conquers all it seems.
Ill lay odds on that comment

or in the words of Bob Dylan…. “lot of people out there with no food on their plates…. but they gotta lot of forks, and knives… gotta cut something”
or close to that..

http://www.point-spreads.com/content/view/1604/2/
Not only has the United States failed to comply with the WTO, President George W. Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in October 2006. UIGEA makes it illegal for financial institutions to knowingly allow transactions to online gambling companies. The framework of UIGEA was tacked on to unrelated Port Security Legislation by a Republican congress led by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and his good ole buddy Arizona Senator Jon Kyl. Knowing that legislation to prevent online gambling would fail on its own, the pair used a “bait and switch” style tactic to add UIGEA to a bill designed to protect our National Security at the ninth hour of the last session of congress.
Jon Kyl had been unsuccessful in trying to get a version of UIGEA approved by the Senate for years, however he was never able to rally enough support. Thanks Jack! Kyl’s lack of support might have been because his version of the law was riddled with inconsistencies by allowing some forms of online gambling. Any version of anti-gambling laws basically deprive Americans of their freedoms.
The current US Administration is full of double standards, so with that being said:
Why should China listen to the WTO if Washington won’t listen?

Soviet Union was broke.. big diff here as China will have more power to pull the strings of the US puppets.. This will be the first time since its emergence as a world power the US slides into second place.
April 12, 2007 at 3:47 pm #733771vladcizsolMemberChips several things to ponder….
1. China has been a communist nation for over 50 years. Under that system 95% of the population were peasant farmers and lived in poverty. Nothing changed that for decades and nothing would have if they had stayed the course. See North Korea….
2. When capitalism was introduced in the late 1980s their economy began to spring to life. Now it’s 2007 and we are talking about the growing strength of their economy and the new found wealth of their people. Their cities are booming. Manufacturing is booming. And the personal income of chinese as individuals is soaring. ALL of that is the result of capitalism. ALL of it.
3. All of it is driven by money that is pouring into their economy from exports they send to THE WEST. Do you disagree?
4. Who is now the master of their country? The communist party leaders who are also now growing fat and rich from the influx of Western money? Or is Capitalism their defacto rulers?
5. Could they put the genie back in the bottle if they wanted to now? Wouldnt the people who have tasted freedom and money rebel if they tried?
The China we knew in the 50’s, 60’s and evn 70’s is dead and buried. Chairman Mao hated the capitalist model and is no doubt spinning in his grave. Our system, Capitalism swept through China like a great wind and blew away the socialist ideas that were their center piece of government. Surely you see that. The fact that you are awed by their growth and present economic properity proves my point. Assimilation….
April 12, 2007 at 4:10 pm #733777AnonymousInactiveAll you have to do is look at the stickers on anything in your home – from the TV, PC, clothing, appliances, food, etc… I dare you to find canned mushrooms not made in China
April 12, 2007 at 4:34 pm #733779vladcizsolMemberExactly Stupid. Chinese mushrooms are in your cupboard and your money is fueling their economy. All of that money in the Chinese economy is coming from Western Consumers.
They are DEPENDANT on us now. Whereas before they were self reliant. :hattip:
April 12, 2007 at 4:52 pm #733783AnonymousInactiveI think we are more dependant on them than they are on us. Besides the fact that the most US foreign debt is to China, their products are all over the shelfs – if Chinese products got pulled out tomorrow – there would be about 20-30 items left in sotres like Walmart and Krogers.
The example with the mushrooms was from my recent discovery that the brand “Pennsylvania Dutch” was Made In China. What an oxymoron!!!
I always try to buy products made in the local market (depending on the country I am currently in), so I decided to find mushrooms made in USA – nope, all of them are made in China…mushrooms…I just wonder what happens to the mushrooms made here – do they ship them to China?!?April 12, 2007 at 5:11 pm #733786AnonymousInactiveI agree with you Prof, ony issue is we will soon be looking up to them.. somthing that has NEVER happened to this place. Would you take orders from your pool boy today?
April 12, 2007 at 5:38 pm #733789AnonymousInactiveChina now surpasses the US in Exports..
April 12, 2007 at 6:06 pm #733795AnonymousInactiveThe same argument applies to the arab world and oil – who depends on whom here?
