What was Google’s real motivation behind the Penguin algorithm update? We posed this question to three SEO all-stars at our last SEO Roundtable Webinar, and the answers were quite fascinating. Takeaway 3 factors behind Google Penguin, plus a bonus conspiracy theory.
We have so many strong SEO affiliates here in the community. Would love to hear your thoughts on these theories. Do you agree/disagree? What do you think really came into play with the move toward Google Penguin?

However what was planned and what actually happened are two different things. Even today I still see many low quality sites shag top spots, containing copyright infringement stuff like live streams and stuff.
I certainly hope the algorithm will one day be close to perfect and everyone will get what they deserve. Recently read that the “I feel lucky” button costs Google millions of lost ads revenue, but they keep it anyways, showing that not everything with Google is about money or is it.
As for the conspiracy theories I doubt this is the case, but even if it was, when you are using Google, as main traffic source you will have to play by Google’s rules.
To be honest I thought I was hit by Panda and Penguin, although Google’s reply was that I have never been. Anyways after getting rid of short posts and getting some good relative links here and there I have been back stronger than ever.
The whole SEO subject seems exaggerated and people get lost in searching for the Holy Grail, than to simply Keep on Walking .

You’ve summed it up nicely excutable.
At the end of the day Google has weeded out all the short cuts such as link farms, poorly written content, duplicate content and so forth. That said there’s nothing more frustrating to see crappy sites rank higher than your site for the same kw’s. I sincerely hope G gets it right in future.
We have not been hit by Penguin per se since we try and focus on quality content. We also experimented with a couple of new things which boosted our traffic tremendously.
