I’ve been kind of tossing around an idea, that could be a very good idea, or a very bad idea.

I live in Oregon, a very liberal state. Our newspaper is also known for being very far on the liberal side.. So here is my thought.

I started out in the affiliate industry, after deciding to stay at home with my FIVE, yup count em five kids…

I was working at that time as an online bingo chat host, later on i started working for http://www.postonmyforum.com as a part time forum poster…

In the meantime i had started 2 lil yahoo groups, the first was for women poker players. The second was for the men that kept crashing the first.

Well while working for POMF, i saw ALOT of poker portals, and quickly learned that allthough i was makin’ a lil bit of cash, this group thing was just not the way to go… and started http://www.muckhappens.com and http://www.ladiesofholdem.com … Soon after, I quit posting on forums, allthough i still do alot of other side things for forum owners, posting (Thank you GOD!) isn’t one of them.

Then I went to work for a much larger website (Thank you God for him too!) learned some more, started http://www.spiceyournet.com where I write for several other online gambling portals, and closed my own welfare case, I was making enough money to do that, and not have those irritating people in my life anymore!

In fact, I’ve just recently started a website for other work at home parents, I now have a bingo site, (won that one :) ) .. things are going fairly well :)

So to me, the online gambling industry brought opportunity, much needed change, new independance, etc.

There are no laws against what I do in Oregon at this time.. So by opening myself up to scrutiny, I shouldn’t have to many legal troubles just yet.. and because I am in a pretty liberal state, I don’t think I should be creating any.

It could do great things to my sites, or really bad things if I’ve missed something, but it could give the voters a chance to see a whole nother side of online gambling… After all, I have poker portals, I make more money from winning players than losing..

Soooo would a newspaper article be a good thing… or not so much?

    Opinions please..

I would be leary putting yourself in the public spotlight. I think you need to think about the worst case scenario, and be sure you are protecting your children. Be sure to remember when it comes to politics, and government truth doesn’t have much to do with things. Remember, Washington is a liberal state.

As for me, most of my friends don’t know what I do. I tell them I run news websites. I imagine they all figure I make porn sites…but at least that is clearly legal, with no pending bill.

I would be very careful about drawing attention to yourself. You don’t know who might read the story — some conservative nutjob (possibly outside Oregon) might see it and decide to make an example out of you. You could be opening Pandora’s Box by doing something like this. If I was in your shoes (if I had 5 kids to take care of), I wouldn’t do it.

We all know that there is no law against online gambling, but that doesn’t mean some idiot won’t “try” to harm you for doing something that they think is morally wrong. :dozing: They could sue you for some bogus reason, and you’ll have to hire a lawyer to defend yourself. Or, some conservative freak inside the government might call a buddy at the IRS — next thing you know, the IRS is in your living room asking questions and pawing through your accounting files, making your life hell.

Also, under the Bush regime, anything goes. It doesn’t matter if what you are doing is technically legal — the Bush administration and the DOJ will do whatever they please. Shoot now, ask questions later. Surely if you received a letter from the DOJ ordering you to cease and desist, you would comply — even though what you are doing is not technically illegal. Going up against the DOJ would be a nightmare, and it would take years for the case to make it to the Supreme Court (if it got that far).

January 2009 can’t come soon enough for me. I am throwing a huge party the day Bush leaves office.
