    The new site is http://www.poker-reviews.net.

I have received many page views thanks to some strategic marketing (not through search engines as of yet), but have not received one click through on links to the poker sites I am promoting.

I’m wondering if I made the links too hard to find. I think that my expectations were that the viewer would actually take the time to read the reviews and then click on the links at the bottom. Maybe I just needed to bombard them with links/banners and hope that somebody clicks on one of them – and then the poker room can take care of it from there.

I was wondering, what are your strategies in trying to get people to click on links? I wanted to create an honest review site that people would find helpful but this doesn’t seem to be producing many results – not enough to even cover the cost of marketing.

    Any thoughts?

The flourescent green background makes it very hard for me to stay on the page long.

Yeah, the colors were among the worst I’ve ever seen.. Also there is too much scrolling when trying to read the page..

The all caps at the beginning is kind of a turn off. It always makes me think someone is YELLING! ;)

I agree with the above comments, and I you should listen to all of the above.

Another way I would change your site to make it clearer to read would be to have the middle (content) background in white and your text in black.

For your links on the left, you should also consider changing the link color to white or otherwise so its easier to see

Also reduce the font, it always a good move to check out what the site will look like on different screen sizes.

The more confusing you make the site on the user to clearly navigate around the less affective it will be there.

I like the URL, and if you remove teh scolling and the neon green (its a poker review site so why not poker green) you will be on your way.

    Good luck

I can’t stand staying long enough to have a good look – that green is killing me.

Re. reducing the font: Be very careful with that!

Many gamblers are over 40, the baby boomer generation. At that time you start losing some of your eyesight. These people need glasses to read, but usually do not need them on the internet for a couple of decades to come. Small print would force them to go get the glasses – will they? I think not, I think they will just go someplace where they can read without squinting.

So I think the size of the font is a good one.

I think your number one problem is that this type green hurts the eyes.

Once that is fixed, we can have another look.

The lack of clicks can also result from the wrong type visitors, which would be caused by your marketing. If you have only people interested in playing poker and you still get no clicks, we need to look at the site more closely.

Thanks guys for the comments…you should’ve seen the green prior to darkening it a bit. The whole idea behind the green was the felt on a casino table, so good point about making it a darker shade – “poker green.”

Anyway, thanks again for the reviews…

One more thing – responding to the comments that the excessive scrolling on the index page is a problem: I agree. I’m wondering if maybe the index page should just be an overview/introduction page, and the first review should go on a separate page. In looking at other top affiliate pages, it seems like this is usually the case.

I guess I need to realize that I’m not looking for internet users who click on a link on my page without knowing what they are doing – I want people that are specifically searching for online poker room reviews and want to try one out…

You might consider changing fonts too. I tend to favor Arial or Verdana for readability, myself.
