Hey guys,
I thought I would make this a bit more private…
Do people here know other members who scrape sites? I would really like to know which ones they are… Reason? Well, it’s the only way to protect oneself. I write my own content, create my own sites, and try to give my surfers something to come back to… Now, I am not perfect at it yet but I don’t want content scrapers replicating my information all over the place and getting paid for it.
Any ideas? Create a private forums list of these guys? Anything??

November 28, 2005 at 3:25 pm #677361AnonymousInactiveA good idea in my view. Just this last week I have been the target of two sites that I am aware of, either ripping off my content or in the case of the latest one, my entire design and content.
Basically the people that undertake these activities have crossed the line in my book.
November 28, 2005 at 3:46 pm #677364AnonymousInactiveI agree; a list would be a good idea. This sort of thing needs to be stopped.
I launched a new site recently, and within days, I discovered that the home page had been scraped. UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE! :cuss:
One way to deal with scrapers is to simply drop/boycott/blacklist the aff programs that continue to allow scraper affiliates to operate. Most of the programs here respond quickly to complaints about copied or scraped content. But there are a few programs that don’t make it a priority (*cough* 888.com, Golden Palace). If we make a big enough fuss, the affiliate programs will listen and take action against the scraper affiliates.
So, I propose 2 lists — one naming the scraping affiliates, and one naming the programs that take swift and severe action against scraper affiliates.
November 28, 2005 at 3:48 pm #677366AnonymousInactiveI think you will find unfortunately that 888.com and Golden Palace do not give a flying ***** what their affiliates do, as long as they make them money.
November 28, 2005 at 3:58 pm #677369AnonymousInactiveI think you’re probably right.
November 28, 2005 at 4:08 pm #677372AnonymousInactiveProbably correct… But a good idea nonetheless.
I DO NOT want to work with programs that treat their affiliates poorly. And this includes programs that allow spamming and scraping without retribution.
At least if we call them out, then we will KNOW who we don’t want to do business with. I’ve said this before, but I believe if programs allow this type of stuff – then what else do they do? Skim? Remove Players? Add Fake bonuses to cut down your earnings?
Who knows, but I don’t want to deal with these types.

We could award some sort of kudos to programs for each content theft problem they have handled for us.
November 28, 2005 at 4:23 pm #677378AnonymousInactiveThat is a great idea also… Kudos to programs that act appropriately.
Maybe a forum taylored towards thost programs that:
1. Shut down affiliates who spam
3. Shut down affiliates who scrapeNovember 28, 2005 at 8:42 pm #677399vladcizsolMemberSeveral of the largest and worst black hatters ARE members here at CAP. They generally dont post much as we know who they are and they know we know. I leave their memberships active as I am certain if I deleted them they would sign up again under other names and I would lose track of them.

Same goes for many of the members over on the GPWA as well Prof.
November 29, 2005 at 1:23 pm #677460AnonymousInactiveBut they are not part of the private forums, correct??? At least I hope not
So… If that is true, can’t we call them out here?
November 29, 2005 at 2:15 pm #677462vladcizsolMemberNope, they do not have access to private forums.
One thing to note, since we are in private, almost ALL of the worst offenders work closely with Playtech or Cassava almost exclusively. Most Microgaming Casino Operators do take a more active role in policing their affiliates.
Playtech and Cassava seem to be amused or even supportive of this bad behavior. One of the largest offenders has even stated that he is allowed to run audits on the stats for his traffic and does so regularly, the casinos allow this because he supposedly sends OVER 1000 new depositing players per month!
Also Note that while it’s never been proven, two of the largest playtech operators have been accused of running in house black hat operations. Since they vehemently deny this and have proposed legal action against people who accuse them publically without proof we have given them the benefit of the doubt on wether the accusations are founded.
Guys you have to remember that we do operate in a gray area of the law and we are sometimes dealing with elements who have monetary backing from shall we say “organized” sources, you have to expect a certain amount of chicanery.
To quote Hyman Roth from the Godfather II “This is the business we have chosen”

You are absolutely spot on there.
Playtech and Cassava seem to be amused or even supportive of this bad behavior.
Cassava have shown time and time again by even their rep here and over on the GPWA that they don’t care about their affiliate partners.
November 29, 2005 at 2:53 pm #677465AnonymousInactiveI would like to see some names if “we all know”.
I do not want to get into bed via link trades or sales with these types of people.
Question : Is there a list of sites that are under Playtech and Cassava?
I am too new to know all of this
Thanks !
November 29, 2005 at 2:56 pm #677466AnonymousInactiveSee…. Maybe this is why I just cannot get any Playtech players! If they let content thieves thrive, then they are most assuredly willing to shave players!
I seriously have (at the several Playtechs I have tried to convert) well over 1000 downloads.
Players? 0, ziltch, nada
And I agree with Holis, I don’t want a link to any of these guys on my site! I am sure they know my site is out there, but I don’t need to be giving them a location on there so that they can find me anytime they want
