I’m just wondering what the folks at Poker Room have to say about this offensive and disgusting marketing ploy?
For those of you who don’t know about this, have a read:

For Poker Room to have anything to do with this is shocking to me.
I’m hoping that anyone who shares my feelings will speak up on this one.
January 3, 2006 at 5:59 am #679718AnonymousInactiveMan, that’s a disgusting publicity stump…er stunt.
Anyone taking bets yet on who the highest bidder on eBay will be – to have their casino name tatooed on the amputated appendage? :hmmm:
But, seriously, I hope pokerroom.com puts a stop to this. If this campaign gains enough publicity, there’ll be no plugging the dam, and more idiots will be offering to mangle themselves to make a buck.
January 3, 2006 at 3:34 pm #679738AnonymousInactiveApparently he gains by getting lots of visitors to that site.
Also all these things are based on the assumption that long threads about it will result in many forums debating this. That will mean that lots of people will go and watch the match, or whatever, visit the poker site, and the whole publicity stunt will have worked.
Personally I could care less if he wants to chop off his body parts – nuts.
But I just as rather not give it publicity, it’s gross.
January 4, 2006 at 6:52 pm #679825AnonymousInactiveI think it’s hillarious.
I doubt he would end up losing — with a body part at stake… Even then, there’s a good chance he won’t cut off his finger.
It’s just a publicity stunt as others have said before — kind of like those websites that say “Help me raise $xxxxx before (insert date), or the bunny/puppy/kitten gets it!”
If he puts that up on ebay, it will more than likely be shut down as soon as an Ebay representative sees it.
January 4, 2006 at 7:07 pm #679827AnonymousInactiveA clever tongue-in-cheek copycat on the ball:

He’s obviously not serious, and he isn’t promoting anything. He has a bet with the owner of the “save my finger” site to see who gets the most traffic.
January 5, 2006 at 1:03 pm #679902AnonymousInactive108 visitors since December 22nd. He only needs 999,892 more by April or it’s bye-bye-nuts.
January 7, 2006 at 9:05 pm #680067AnonymousInactiveA nice write-up about the infamous appendage bet:

Just in case anybody is interested:
The viral marketing experiment conducted at http://www.savemyfinger.com/ is a success.
Unfortunately, his challenger, http://www.preventmycastration.com/, owes us a *ahem* penis. :guitar:
