Russian law to restrict casinos
Russian MPs have passed a law to drive casinos and slot machines out of Moscow and other cities, where they have proliferated in recent years.
The law was passed overwhelmingly by the lower house on Wednesday. It had been proposed by President Vladimir Putin in October.
By July 2009 gambling will have to be concentrated in four regions far from Moscow, the law says.
It bans gambling on the internet and at airports, supermarkets and other sites.
Anyone know the details of this?

As for the online gambling side, several online poker and bookmaking companies have aggressively courted Russian customers in the last 12 months, with many others localizing their website and gaming product to Russian.
December 21, 2006 at 7:02 pm #719611AnonymousInactiveOn TV I heared only that Russia bans offline gambling, that is all casinos will be moved to special towns. But I heared nothing about online gambling banning.
And I read russian gambling forums, and there are nothing about online gambling banning, only offline. Russian goverment don’t know how to control online gambling business, and they are thinking now how to control online gambling.
I’ll try to find something new about russian bill.
December 21, 2006 at 8:12 pm #719617NetPalMemberwhat do you think of the Russian ?
You think before to honest and good person that live in Russia
but you think to :
to Cecenia.
to Aleksandr Litvinenko.
to Yukos ( Mikhail Khodorkovskij ).December 22, 2006 at 4:03 am #719665AnonymousInactivelet’s not get to conclusions for several reasons:
1. Gambling as a fact is present in Russia. Gambling is all over the place. If you thought neone lights are annoiying, wait till you get to Moscow. People bet their salary to double it! BUT, there is future motion to move land based gambling to “las vegas” type communities…which is what the whole law is about (besided hurting the business of Moscow mayor (totally internal but worth billions))
2. Online gambling has never even occured to the russian govt for the reason being that it doesnt make anough money yet. Now, when it will make good dough, then it would be a useful target. But even then it would be impossible to ban it because there are not enough democratic institutions to stand up for “a person’s” right. Thus online gambling is an unkown area. Nobody really cares about it. No control. Go figure.
so if anyone of you are worried of being prosecuted … forget about it for the next 5 years…and be happy :santa2: and happy new years to you all!!!!
as far as my wished go, if you had a wish, let all your wishes come true next year! :letsparty

Don’t try to understand that you have never understood. It’s a Russia…
December 22, 2006 at 11:39 am #719694AnonymousInactiveHello fellow colleagues!
So actually you are right. there is now a ban to gambling in Russia.
It is prohibited to organise gambling including means of internet.Basically what does it mean:
All land based casinos shall be moved to special areas, so called “gambling zones”. There is also a requirement to gambling places like minimum amount of machines (tables) per 800 square meters of gambling place. The minimum amount of holdings of a casino is to be 600 mln roubles (1 usd = 26.25 rubles).
Anyway there is now strict restriction to bookmaking.
At the same time all online casinos registered in Russia are now out of law. What does the same mean… it means that many small casinos will leave the market and big resources will move from Russia.
At the same time law does not prohibit players from gambling online.
