Tel. +1.5068477123Not too happy with this pissant – they are using one of my brandnames as anchor text linking to a page with our name in the title, header tags, text ALL over. I surely hope that their efforts to capitalize off of my hard work have not been successful!
SCUM like this need to be slapped up side the Fn head!

InactiveI discovered this POS today when I received a link request … when going to verify the presence of my link I seen that my site was linking to another site – I thought at first the linking webmaster has made a mistake – then I discovered another link to my site which was correct – so I visited the other link to find that they had my brand all over their site.
Pretty crappy that they are obviously on a linking campaign using my brand … so irritating. I have just sent them an email asking them to discontinue the unethical practice – I am pretty confident it will have no affect. Hell if theyre stupid enough to do it in the first place I doubt they’ll have enough morality to cease what they are doing.
If they dont – I wont hesitate to take further action – what ever that might be …

Guestgood luck Ark.
I have what I think is a similar situation. But I’m to blame at least partly for not having kept the domain
I have 1-casino-gambling-directory.com
and I used to have 1casinogamblingdirectory.com
I bought the former in attempt to get some SE traffic; and bought the latter to insure that if the first takes off; I’d be covered for any return traffic that forgot to add the dashes.
sounds plausible so far right?
well suprise surprise; I ddin’t get any SE traffic; not a lot anyway.
so when time came; I dumped the 1casinogamblingdirectory.com
now when you type that in; it takes you to another site.
Not a big deal; until I find out they’ve copied my file names; for instance; I have one file called “Lane” (after my son, because it’s his work that are on those pages).
Now when I saw that it was obvious they were trying (apparently very hard) to catch any traffic that I’m not; and perhaps are in some way unknown to me; are stealing traffic from me that is rightfully mine; I don’t know.
But I do know when I saw that they had copied the file pages that go
1-casino-gambling-directory.com/lane/nameofindividualpage.html
that they are up to something fishy because nobody would use Lane’s name but me for a file in a gambling website.

InactiveYes it seems to be similar in that they are trying to capitalize off of your work.
In my case imagine that someone were to take for example the name casinomeister and create a subdomain casinomeister.theirdomain.com and then on that page had casino meister in the title, heading tags, in the text and were obtaining links with the anchor casino meister.
In this case they haven’t really copied path and file names, but are using my brand in an attempt to benefit off of my hard work.
I made a mistake similar to yours a few years back when I registered a dash name with the intent to grab the non-dash version after a few months of testing. Turned out to be big mistake – after I had boasted about the new dashed domains success the non-dash was grabbed up – an experience I learned from. Now every time I develop a “brandable” domain I get both dash and non-dash versions.
As of today this moron still hasnt taken the material down – as I stated before I doubt they will without some intervention

InactiveHey Arkyt,
I have had to deal with this problem several times with different assholes. Just be persistant and you should be able to resolve the problem.November 7, 2004 at 3:42 pm #657355Anonymous

Gotta say, bb1…
If I purchase a domain and find that users are requesting files from my server, I might just give them some files.
In fact, I once purchased a domain and found that thousands of people were requesting files from my server to display on their websites. (even with a link to a file on my domain.) What did I do? I set up files and scripts to display whatever I wanted on their sites, and send the traffic wherever I wanted. These were people who hadn’t updated their websites in over a year. After testing to make sure everything worked, I just couldn’t go through with it because it seemed a bit too dastardly. But even now, I still get a little giggle out of it.

InactiveI dont think people were actually hotlinking his materials, but had rather set up their site to look as if it were a mirror of his.
A few years ago I had loads of fun with hotlinkers – was rather funny to see them serving up the images I wanted to serve them! I didn’t find it dastardly one bit – I found it to be totally acceptable on my behalf and was a hell of laugh when after two months they were still serving it … :rollover:

InactiveThanks, mongoose.
In my case, they weren’t really hotlinking, either. Ok, they were… but the previous owner of the domain was allowing it and giving them something of value to them. Since I picked up the domain as expired, I had no obligation to maintain agreements made by the previous owner.
So, I did jump over the “is it ethical?” hurdle, but I guess I didn’t go through with it because I decided it just wasn’t very nice.
With bb1’s case, I’ve done that before too. I once picked up an expired domain with 9 dmoz listings in subdirectories, and setting up that same stucture was the first thing I did.
I’ve had cases like yours before too, arkyt, and you’re right, that was pure fun.

GuestIt sure is great to hear from you OneG.
I’ve tried to call you several times with no luck, and the last we talked if I remember right; we got cut-off and that was the last of it.
I was wondering if you’d hung up on me because I made you mad but I know that isn’t the case; so anyway, ring me one of these days when you think of it.
**********************
What I find incredibly curious is why the person ever chose to copy my link paths since I never got much traffic from that site; it sure seems like a lot of work to have went to; for the kind of results I am guessing they’ve seen.
LOL
Oh well. if it kept them busy doing that for a while; it was worth it since its pretty obvious this is a person who’d prefer not to earn their own way by using more ethical means.
Perhaps it delayed them from becoming someone else’s pain in the ass; whos site does get considerable traffic.
I don’t mind them trying to capitalize on something I threw aside; for that I say more power to them. But when they start naming their pages the same; etc; thats tacky at very least.
What’s really funniest of all; is why would someone choose my shitty sites to copy or mirror in any form? News Flash! (to that person). My success has surely NOT been due to my web designing abilities. LOL.
