Seems someone doesn’t like me much. First off someone sets up a site stealing my design and content – which I get shut down. Now yesterday someone has put in an invalidwhois complaint to my domain name registrar.

This is in addition to being sent a trojan last week which compromised my neteller account. I believe this is unrelated though.

    :cuss:

If I find out who this individual is, they are going to be in for some serious shit.

    That sucks.

Some people are such assholes. Unfortunately because the Internet makes people feel insulated and anonymous it brings out the worst in borderline personality types.

I have had to endure these sort of petty attacks as well and sadly most people who ARE even moderately successful attract the attentions of at least one sick bastard.

Good Luck Webzcas. If we can do anything to help let us know. If you find out who it is let us know and collectively we can help “adjust” this persons attitude.

For every registered and active member we have here at the community we have 50 daily lurkers who watch everything. I am sure a percentage of them are NOT the nicest people online or they would show themselves and participate in the discussions.

I am also very leary of people who ARE members yet have themselves set as “Hidden” from other members. It makes you wonder WHY? Why dont they want other members to know they are around? What are they hiding?

    :huh2:

I agree there are several hidden members. Some don’t drop there url either. I don’t because my site is still not finished. I think I dropped my link maybe three times.

But I swear because I am four years behind this computer stuff I will eventually fid some answers that will be concrete.

I will always be for for CAP the best dam forum on the net!!! greek39

Regarding links — to be honest, I am a bit leery of posting URLs to any of my new sites. I have this feeling that once I post the links, some evil lurker here will immediatly go and scrape the new site, or copy the layout, or Google-bowl it, or something…. Does anyone else think this way, or I am just being paranoid?

Yes. I feel the same. I have several sites that I am not posting my link of here. It sucks, though, and I have thought about removing my current links because of all the scraping going on. :(

Scrapers generally operate by crawling serps. They want to Scrape sites that are ranking well in the serps for the terms they are targeting. They search Google and Yahoo and MSN then crawl and scrape the sites listed there for the keywords they are targeting. They dont generally crawl sites and search for pages to scrape as they would end up with pages added to their sites that DONT rank well and could hurt the scrapers ranking. So if you dont want to get scraped you have to avoid any top ranks in the search engines :1circling

Thats why I have my links posted in sigs. From an SEO standpoint its an excellent way to get backlinks from well ranked authority sites in your niche. (Assuming you are posting at boards related to the topics your sites cover)

    That is just awful.

People have gone after me in a variety of ways, but this one seems to be quite inventive.

We need to stick together and stick up for each other!

I agree we must stick together and maybe stop dropping our url. I know the professor probably won’t like this idea but I kinda do. Get a good hacker pay him to protect your site. Most don’t really care amount the money the care about practicing there craft. greek39

I have to say my domain name registrar were very helpful. Last night for $2 I took up the anonymous whois service for the domain.

They also confirmed that someone complained that the telephone number on my whois record was invalid – which was the case – I don’t like my phone number being on the net.

So it looks like I have either pissed off another affiliate or a casino, either by being vocal either on here or on Meister, or more likely by having prominent serps – Anyhow it has to be someone connected to the industry.

The thing is I am a very patient individual when I have to be. Therefore if this person continues harrassing me, he/she will slip up eventually – When they do, I will enjoy throwing money at a lawyer to make them go away.

The PC in question has been formatted and rebuilt from scratch. New Cisco Wireless router purchased as well. Along with new firewall software for my PC’s.

A router provides a huge window for would be attackers. I do not use them but there is a way of configuring them properly to minimize the threat. greek39
