Bonustreak posted this very interesting information in another thread:
I am getting the word out on prepaid credit cards and my players are using them! They have deposited at many casinos with them already…
From 1 player..deposit with prepaid cards and all these casinos take them…
The prive group
iNetBet
clubworld
vegas lucky
jackpot factory
Bellerock
intertops
grand monaco
casino shareIt appears that this type of transaction isn’t blocked by the card companies. I wonder if it is because they are “instant” debit transactions, which makes it impossible to stop?
January 19, 2007 at 3:03 pm #723432AnonymousInactiveProbably because the money you put down on these cards is yours and not the credit card companies.
Just a thought

January 19, 2007 at 3:26 pm #723436AnonymousInactiveThat makes sense to me.
Does anyone know where you can find these cards (e.g. Walmart, grocery store, etc), how you can fund them (cash, credit, check), how much the cards can hold (max $500? $5,000?), are they easy to recharge, and what sort of transaction records (if any) are kept by the company that issues the card?
January 19, 2007 at 3:27 pm #723437affiliategodMemberVillento accepts them as well.
January 19, 2007 at 4:03 pm #723450AnonymousInactiveEngineer they seem to be all over the place. May be different for U.S residents but here my bank carries them. Also if your in dire need Money Mart carries them as well. Now I can only imagine how many places carry them in the U.S

January 19, 2007 at 4:11 pm #723454vladcizsolMemberGuys since these cards seem to be working and may be a very viable solution for players we may want to discuss them in the private industry area.
I hate to be paranoid but out in the general discussion area there are lurkers and potentially unfriendly eyes watching. No use making their frigging jobs easier by identifying the next thing they should go after….
January 19, 2007 at 4:30 pm #723459affiliategodMemberList of Prepaid Cards:
Both I HIGHLY recommend! Both are basically the same. (Interrelated) I believe you can buy online and I’ve heard you can reload online. Although, I have bought mine at my local A & P grocery store and I know Safeway (another grocery store) sells them as well.
Have never used but have heard nothing but good.
There are more. Will post as they come to me.

I have the same thoughts. These ideas should be discussed in the private areas.
Thanks professor.

January 19, 2007 at 5:43 pm #723475affiliategodMemberI’ve seen them posted at bunch of other sites for the players. I won’t post them at any of my places. It’s only giving the “Feds” directions on who to go after next. Why make their job any easier.
Yes, posting may be great for some fast cash. But, if you’re in it for the lang haul, posting them right out there, will not work.
January 19, 2007 at 7:48 pm #723503AnonymousInactiveThese cards are available in the US in most grocery stores, drug stores and even convenience stores. Most of these cards have to be loaded at the place of purchase and you can’t use a debit or credit card to buy/fund them. It has to be cash only (although I hear that the NetSpend can be funded via PayPal, but I don’t have any way to confirm this)
If you purchase a debit card, you will receive a visa/mc debit card in the mail, depending on which one you buy. Minimum load is $20 and there is a fee attached for just about everything. A $5 monthly fee is attached to the debit cards. The gift cards are usually a predefined amount, and are a one time shot, can’t be reloaded but are cheaper to buy, generally around 3.95 plus the dollar amount purchased.
The gift card I used over Christmas made a point of saying if you use it for purchase online you have to go online and register the gift card with your name/address, otherwise the charge won’t be approved. Anyone who’s purchased online knows the conflicts of a different name/address that on the acct. I don’t know if this holds true for online casinos as well. I just went in and registered the gift card and used it. It might work without doing that, I just don’t know. All together, if I had my druthers as a player, I’d go with the gift card. The prepaid debit card I have gets expensive.

I think that this is simply an issue of focus. Online gamblers were not using prepaid / gift cards because they were expensive so attracted small volumes.
The prepaid / gift cards simply have not been in the firing line yet – but in essence if traffic starts to go there then they will be forced into working the same way as credit card companies and will eventually decline requests from merchants loaded as gambling companies.
This is a case in point of a principal that several people on here forecast – that the market will just keep hoping onto different mechanisms and use them while they work.
:hehe:I guess the question is … as the existing methods continually get blocked is it economic (and worth the risk/reward) for organisations to set-up new payment method to function for a limited lifetime ?
January 19, 2007 at 8:33 pm #723511AnonymousInactiveWell, it does depend on the card issuer in terms of depositing to a casino. I tried to use my http://www.greendotonline.com card and was rejected, however, I called them and was told that if I upgrade I can use it for gaming credits… Did that AND still rejected LOL. Also, most of the prepaid cards I’ve used have a $500 or less deposit limit. I’m in NY so things are different I’m sure in other states, just my experience.
January 19, 2007 at 9:48 pm #723524AnonymousGuestHi all,
while I understand the desire to want to hide this option .. isn’t it basically shooting ourselves in the foot if the only people who use them are the few who stumble across the fact that they are being accepted?
I just can’t see the logic in that.
I’ve got to have something to offer my readers in the way of looking like I know something about such matters and there’s really no having your cake and eating it too.
You either advertise alternative methods for players to deposit or sit quietly and hope the people who are putting money into your pockets … happen to discover these alternative methods on their own merit?
Just doesn’t seem like a sharp business plan from my perspective.
I fully understand the Prof’s move to get this thread out of the potentially harmful eyes that may be watching here at cap but guys .. hiding it here where you know the potential for downside outweighs the upside of the matter .. simply does not apply when you’re thinking of hiding these deposit methods from your players who visit your site … exactly for such reasons as to seek such information out. Just doesn’t make much sense to me.
Much as we may not want to … I can’t see NOT advertising the methods to deposit which are currently working.
catch 22 – yes. But I just don’t see it any other way.

January 27, 2007 at 3:25 am #724545AnonymousInactiveI guess I’m paranoid too, but I passworded the area in our forum where we have been talking about alternative payment methods for players. I’m giving the pass out to anyone I know to be a player.. but I agree that it’s not good to let lurkers see everything or what methods that ARE still working, won’t be by the time we wake up tomorrow.
So it seems anyway.. changing by the hour. My head hurts.
