As I understand PR is how good ranked the website is. PR1 is not as good as PR4, right? How do I find my websites PR?

Kind of… PR is Google’s way of determining what everyone else thinks of your website. For example, if you have a bunch of links TO your site FROM a group of quality sites, Google will give you a higher PR. If you have no incoming links, you will get PR0. If you have just a few from not so good sites, maybe a PR1. If you have 100 from a range of PR0 – PR5, then possibly PR2 or PR3.

In the end, it doesn’t make a lick of difference. It DOES NOT improve your rankings on the search engines. It only helps when people are trying to link to you. If you have a higher PR, people will more readily link to you.

Hope that makes sense to you.

And… Go to toolbar.google.com to get a toolbar with PR on it. I think that is what most people use. Otherwise go to seochat.com and they have some tools to check PR.

Yes, there are more than one thought on this. However, you will see a lot of PR2-4 sites way above PR6. You will also see PR0 sites in the top 10 as well.

It’s a combination of PR plus many other factors. Just having a high PR score doesn’t do anything for your rankings if every link coming into your site says something different, or if every link is just your URL. If you have hundreds of links to your site for “online casinos” and another site has the same number of links that say “online casinos” then the site that has the better PR score should be higher in the rankings.

That’s a simplified way of putting it. There are many other factors such as on-page optimization, being penalty free, the manner in which your links are gathered, etc. etc. that ultimately determines your rankings. Only Google knows the magic formula.

As kwblue said, check out the forums at seochat.com to understand more. Plan to read a lot.
