Gosh I hope so… but one really can’t afford to take a guess in this situation. As I’ve said, I will be speaking with an attorney tomorrow and have a much better grasp of what to do, where to go, and how to get there.

Thanks so much, Spanky, for your pledge… and Cagney, Trip7’s, WebCaz, thank you all as well. If the time comes, I will organize any donations as “open” as possible… maybe through the attorny themselves.

Gooner… yes, I realize it’s “shocking” to see it’s all about the money! =0)
I hope I haven’t tainted your innocence about this industry! LOL!

I’ll pledge some myself, if needed. When you get the legal defense trust fund set up let us all know and I’ll drop some cash.

Move to Idaho, advertising gambling is not illegal in Idaho.

As this is mostly political, have you contacted the opposing political party?
If these guys that are voting/passing this ‘new’ law are all repubs contact the washington state dem committee or vice-versa.

You may have more allies than you think.

    Thanks lots0 :hehe:

The issue in Washington seems to be that both parties voted on this the same way…

I think the tribes musta paid off a lot of people on this one.

I posted this link in another thread, but this where you find info on all the states:

Remember, only Washngton has a problem with advertising.

I am not a lawyer and my comments are for entertainment only, but it seems to me that this Washington law interferes with a federal law that classifies advertising as free speech.

I think Dominique has a very good point, one you might want to ask the Attorneys about.

Also just a thought to keep in mind, I have found that finding a good lawyer is a lot like finding a good auto repair guy, sometimes you have to go thur two or three before you find a ‘Good’ one.

Yep, its all about the money. Money under the table makes the government go around. A few greenbacks here and there will sway the voting one way or the other.

Obvious the tribes in Washington are passing quite a few bucks under the table and you can bet that they will be the ones on the witch hunt. They will be the ones tattle-telling on promoters. If you are promoting in this state when this law goes into affect you will be made an example of. Instead of collecting a few thousand bucks, which wont even make a minimal dent in the fees required for a fight against the government, you might want to consider moving prior to June 7th.

I love the law; it bans promotion except when its the state (chapter) doing the promoting. “We can do it, you cant)

    RCW 9.46.240
    Gambling information, transmitting or receiving.

Whoever knowingly transmits or receives gambling information by telephone, telegraph, radio, semaphore, the internet, a telecommunications transmission system, or similar means, or knowingly installs or maintains equipment for the transmission or receipt of gambling information shall be guilty of a class C felony subject to the penalty set forth in RCW 9A.20.021.

However, this section shall not apply to such information transmitted or received or equipment installed or maintained relating to activities authorized by this chapter or to any act or acts in furtherance thereof when conducted in compliance with the provisions of this chapter and in accordance with the rules adopted under this chapter.

I imagine creating a website telling people how to make a bomb or how to kill someone are still perfectly protected by free speech laws. Americans are too content to give a damn about what are leaders are doing and by the time they wake up its going to be too late. :stirpot:

    JTodd, you are famous.

I hope that that does not mean they will make an example of you.

I really think they should not go after advertisers, we do have free speech in this country.

I will definitely be there with a helping hand whenever and however I can.

I’m sorry, I need to make a point clear here, I will only donate anything at all, if the fund is for all gaming affiliates located in Washington, as much as it does look like J will be the first hit, if that isnt the case, I want all of the webmasters that hold firm to their rights to feel that someone is there backing them.

Remember, only Washngton has a problem with advertising.

That part about search engines being held accountable for having links to gambling sites is pretty interesting, especially since last I remember both Google and MSN are operated out of Washington.

My question on this is where the jurisdiction lies? If you are hosting a site in another state or another country, and working with all offshore casinos and not advertising your site locally, can they still come after you just because you happen to live in the state and work on your sites from behind your computer screen? Would be an interesting question to ask your lawyer.

In either case, this does seem like a breach of your First Amendment rights, so perhaps you could get the ACLU on your side if the state comes after you.

We will be happy to support with $2000

But i think we should start a donation for lobby work in USA
If all webmeasters give $1000 and big webmasters give $3000 and all big programs give $10.000 we could really do some SERIUS lobby work in US Congress and US Senate.

Because next month it will be new state with a new gambling Law, so I think the best we can do now is start supporting a lobby grupe.

I know igcouncil.org do have a powerful lobby work but with more money they could do much more( We have supported them before).

By the way we are from Europe here and if we all stand together we can easy win this.
Money rules Senate and Congress we all know that.

Let me know if you guys think this would be a good idea and if anybody would be interested helping getting webmasters and casinos support this.

WE CAN EASY WIN IF WE WORK TOGHETER!

Sadly I think its much too late to think about lobbying efforts. As I stated months ago, this goodlatte bill is going to pass through with flying colors; and all on half-baked facts.

    Freedom? Whats that?

ok…here i go again with the “inexperience” questions..

But can someone explain to me…how does a state…or government…find out we run a website advertising online gaming?

its not like we post are names or address for the world to see…

I know we have isp address…but don’t they have to already know who we are before tracking us this way.?? i just don’t get how they know to find who owns what websites?

if this is stupid..excuse me…but teach me at the same time..please…cause i really don’t understand how someone in my state..”ct.”…could search the huge internet..and find me and my website…and my name..and address and anything else to implement me in advertiseing online gaming?

    thanks
    pat
