So it’s clear that I suck at HTML and I was thinking about paying someone at my school to develope a simple, clean html. Do you guys think it’s worth it?

    Depends on what it costs.

I’m of the opinion that learning to do it yourself is the best idea. Once you know some html, or at least how to use a WYSIWYG, then you’ll have a better idea of what value you’re getting from someone that you hire anyway.

If someone does it for you, how will you change anything afterward?

Admin tools is one thing, but it limits you in what you can modify.

worldpeace…you definately do not SUCK at creating websites….it looks far better than the majority of sites I see on a daily basis….maybe downloading a pre-made template would be more appropriate for you…they can run from 20$-100$….but atleast youll know how to update your own content and it’ll look spiffy ….. http://www.oswd.org i believe has templates o’plenty…basic for free, fancy for $$(under premium designs on the left menu)…hope this might guide you the right way…but just dont get someone to do it for you!

I have had a webmaster for GamesandCasino from the start.

I started with an inexpensive service. The person just did what I wanted, both in design and seo. I paid a monthly fee that covered updates and hosting. This situation did create it’s headaches, mostly untimely service.

I don’t recommend having the hosting bundled with the webmaster service – get your own hosting.

Once GamesandCasino became more sucessful, I have had a webmaster pretty much full time and now I have more staff.

I like it that way – I am not a tech person or an artistic person. I figure I should do what I am good at and leave the rest to those more skilled or talented than me.

I have bought this website at http://www.billigehjemmesider.dk – it means cheap homepages in english.

I paid him 500$ – and I got a site which i without any problems can take care of my self.

I put in banners my self and content, but the programming was done by him.

Its very easy to do it your self – and thing get fixed when I want to.

    Take a look: http://www.gamblersillustrated.com

…I´m still working on the site – but I have earned more than I paid him :-)

…I did that the first month:-)

Send me a PM and I will help you with a mailadress to him

I shouldn’t post this because it’s only my 2nd post on this forum, but since you asked… :) I’m a graphic/web designer. I’m not expensive.. I’m very easy to work with (email when possible) and honest. And if you’re working in U.S. dollars they’ll go 25% farther hiring someone from Canada. So if someone wants something designed that they want to update themselves, or have me update, just send me an email and we can go through it… I can also do business cards/flyer design/flash sites/flash email..

I won’t post my business details here, so here are a couple of sites that activist groups have hired me to do in the past year or so.

    http://www.smokeoutamerica.ca
    http://www.fillthehillrally.ca
(your politics however are not that important to me ;))

If you email admin@smokeoutamerica.ca I will reply with my business name, url, contact details, personal email address etc. and a much more extensive professional portfolio. Get me to do things by project or by the hour.

    Cheers!

If you want to be seen for some time, you could post in the “web design” section.

In turn, sharing some of your knowledge with people asking questions there will be appreciated.

Scriptlance.com is the baby i use. You post what you want, people bid, then you get stuff done. Most cost effective way of doing things as you get people from all over the world bidding. have a look

I’m a designer and no, you don’t suck at html. Sure it can be a bit difficult at first, but you have the ability to do so. my advice would be to look at what other people are doing, pick the best qualities about the sites you like and have been tried and tested and use them yourself. Hiring a designer means you have to depend on someone else. There’s also loads of web templates out there which look really c ool, although i’ve not seen many that are apt for gambling sites. If you want any advice let me know :)

hey, i can cut and paste code with the best of them and by not sabotaging my ftp folder too early i can check out my changes and see if i put the code in the right place, etc. my site costs about $240 a year and i can edit the site at will… it isn’t the greatest for sure, but it is funcitonal… any creative feedback (raking over the coals) would be appreciated… ideas on how to better serve the public would be great :hattip:

    OK
So I too have little or no  experiance designing web-sites but I so need to make some exta cash so I started up a Gambling site:)

I went though a company who, for free, put a generic casino on the URL where I want my casino to be…….. http://www.greengambler.com

:blahblah: With that template I did some redesigning of my own and so-far have come up with what you see at http://www.eyeofanartist.com which I will move to http://www.greengamlber.com when I can afford to purchase a better hosting service.

    So my Question is:

My site http://www.EyeofanArtist.com loads slowly. I know I have a lot of pics and what not but is there anyway I can have my HTML code cleaned up so it loads quicker and still tracks my affiliate links correctly.

    Thanks:)

I wasn’t the best html coder either when I made my first gambling related site. But, I found out about CMS (content management systems), which, depending on the kind of site you’re making, can turn out to be a very interesting alternative than coding your own site from scratch.

There’s a lot of different CMS out there. Most of them are php based and they come with comprehensive admin panel. So you basically don’t have to code at all. At the worst, if you’re not good at web designing, you can hire a web designer, but it’s all css, so it isn’t that hard to create the look you want.

I am building my promotional site myself, 65.25% is done. Too many things to do for a website……..especially for a dummy dreamweaver user doing it in his leisure hour after his 8 hour regular work. Too much…..
Honestly, I shall have found a designer do it for me, and modify it myself…

Guys, give me some inputs on my site, every comment is valuable to me.
