The legal status of online gambling regulation in the US is a constant burning question for many… Check out this year in review for some of the biggest legal updates/spotlights from the past year here:

Online Gambling in the USA: A Year In Review

With so much occurring in iGaming as of late… what do you think affiliates should expect in 2012?

If the DOJ called “online poker a global ponzi scheme”, what do they call the US social security program.

The recent Fed enforcement efforts seem to be counter to the current trend to interpret the law differently.

Seems like the states efforts to increase their own tax revenue will eventually (2013) be the push that Congress needs. Unless it slipped in under the radar in some budget bill, the election will probably take center stage 2012.

I think it will be business as usual, but maybe affiliates will need to look to see if they can position themselves well with customers and in the engines for when the US opens up.

The thing that programs in the US will need to be educated on, is that they will need affiliates and their networks to generate revenue.

Rak, you bring up some great points… Another element that folks need to prepare for… iGaming & Affiliate Marketing is a totally different “animal” than the mainstream space. Affiliate Marketers and Networks need to get schooled on the vertical as a whole and realize that the operation is very, very different when it comes to payment terms, tracking solutions/platforms and promotion.

Gambling is legally restricted in the United States, but its availability and participation is increasing. In 2007, gambling activities generated gross revenues (the difference between the total amounts wagered minus the funds or “winnings” returned to the players) of $92.27 billion in the United States. Commercial casinos provided 354,000 jobs, and state and local tax revenues of $5.2 billion as of 2006. Critics of gambling claim it leads to increased political corruption, compulsive gambling and higher crime rates. Others claim that gambling is a type of regressive tax on the individuals in local economies where gambling venues are located.

Just curious… where are you quoting this info from?

I seen the years 2006 and 2007 in the post thats enough to tell me its not worth considering in todays environment. UIGEA was passed in late 2006 so things have changed a whole lot since then.

I’m eager to see what happens when the states start accepting wagers online – I gotta feeling knowing how crooked minded they are that they will continue to keep the outsiders out. We might find out soon….

And in one years time after that, how many states do you think will have it?
