Seriously, though. Does anyone have some knowledge about how the extension of a domain – particularly a geographic extension – affects SERPS?
May 16, 2004 at 10:26 pm #649302AnonymousInactiveFergie whatever the case in the long run
I’m not sure search engines would be dumb enough to include
foreign language countries in their top page results …
this defeats the objective of relevant results …
kinda of like getting Japanese results for american searches.
May 16, 2004 at 10:47 pm #649303AnonymousInactiveThey are not foreign language websites though are they as most
of the content is in english. They may well differenciate between
languages (its done already) but not domain origination. Its not so apparant in gambling as the main keywords are dominated by us websites but if you look further afield in
particular consumer shopping websites as diverse as au,be,it
fr,co.uk etc feature well on the first pages and not because they
are overly optimised either.to answer your question fergie i have spoken to a few so called seo experts and have been told as long as top level domains
are used they enjoy the same serps as .coms.ps prof if you enjoy a challenge i also own online-casino.sk
slovakia try that language:bigsmile:May 17, 2004 at 12:05 am #649308AnonymousInactiveFergie wrote:
Well I got a nice fat cheque in the mail for a domain name. Nothing like 175,000, but 4 figures, which is always nice to have.
+++++++++++++++++Congrats!
BTW, the strike price is $140,000 –not $175,000.
The lawyer drafting the agreement had a baby, so the agreement draft has been delayed a few days, but it is expected soon, probably early this week.
If you move FAST you can still buy it for $175,000. When I say FAST I mean like overnight me a check. Otherwise, consider it sold.
May 17, 2004 at 12:08 am #649309AnonymousInactiveI see alot of folks are trying to cash in with the CC TLDs.
Don’t waste your money.
.COM is king –has always been, and will always be.

I have to agree.
May 17, 2004 at 12:25 am #649311AnonymousInactiveI’m just curious, Knowing the value of this domain name and how much easier it would be to rank in the search engines. Why dont you just make it #1 for online casino and make a couple million off of that?
May 17, 2004 at 12:30 am #649312AnonymousInactiveAntoine that would be the wisest thing to do … as a real estate
investor I would liken this to selling an empty apartment
building with one that’s already fully rented … the selling
price differential would be huge.

+++++++++++++++That’s a very good question.
Part of the reason is I don’t want to be an affiliate in this business. Another part is I don’t have a clear idea of what kind of kind of site to build; also, I don’t have the infrastructure to publicize, build, support, link, optimize, audit, and maintain it.
The online casino business is very competitive and this domain needs a higher level of committment and expertise than I can offer.
The biggest reason is that I am a domain owner by trade, and this money will help me enormously with other acquisitions. I can leverage the sum into many millions.
I feel I am leaving money on the table with this particular trade. Sometimes it’s OK to do that as part of a larger strategy.
May 17, 2004 at 8:45 am #649329AnonymousInactivei just did a search on google for ROULETTE.
roulette.com is nowhere to be seen on the first 5 pages anyway.
roulette.sh (st helena) is number 3 on the first page.
paroli.de is on page 2 go figure
roulette.com has lost its crown i hope the owner didnt pay
way over the odds for it.:bigsmile:May 17, 2004 at 9:00 am #649330AnonymousGuestAND the roulette.sh has broken a few google “rules”
– spamming the keyword ‘roulette’ in the meta tags
– not putting thebefore the meta tags
– there’s not content on that page!AND there are very few ‘quality’ backlinks.
Man, this serp thing is a real trip.
May 17, 2004 at 9:34 am #649331AnonymousInactiveMan, this serp thing is a real trip. -aint that the truth.
This all goes to prove that buying any keyword domain from
the serp point of view is a complete waste of time.Depending
how you optimise you may get an advantage by repeating
the url over and over buts thats about it.for me and some others i suppose there is some intrinsic value and when i am confronted with a page of url’s i would be more
likely to click on watches.fr than spammy-spam-watches-best.comThere is one exception though com or net cc’s.
ie com.fr net.fr.the beuty of these domains is adding sub domains
onto them.you can have casino.com.fr,blackjack.com.fr etc etc.its like having
your own country. I suppose experts may argue against it but
from my experience when i have a NEW site spidered by google or yahoo they pick out a few pages to list but all sub domains
are always listed.well thats me done on domains expect to say that i beat the
hughes corporation to the draw for directv.be and they want it back haha.(they try and register evey cc domain in existance.)May 17, 2004 at 12:39 pm #649341AnonymousInactiveOriginally posted by steve

May 17, 2004 at 12:55 pm #649343AnonymousInactiveyep cant argue with that classics.but for what the domain cost
them i would imagine that they have made an excellent return
on their investment.with some people its all about the money
very sad:bigsmile: -
