Times have been a little tough for the offshore online gambling industry. After legislation to further curb online gambling was passed last October, publicly traded companies fled the US market shedding American players and bleeding profits like a stuck pig. Many employees lost their jobs and even some industry ‘lifers’ made the decision to take up positions with companies outside the sector.
When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was written, it contained carve-outs for such things as lotteries and horse racing. Now, those very marketing companies and individuals who helped put SportingBet, 888.com and Party Poker on billboards and in the living rooms and computer monitors of Americans have an opportunity to do the same for the state run institutions that this bill still allows to operate.
