Seems like the overwhelming majority think this is a bad idea.
I think what most of us want from a conference is insider information that is not available anywhere else.
For example having the ceos of crypto, micro, and playtech speak in Amsterdam was the highlight of the conference. I think this is the type of thing we want to see more. I would just suggest this time that when someone raises a question that we all want to hear the answer to that you allow the people on the panel to answer instead of just throwing in your own question.
Just dont try so hard. Have stuff that is related to online gambling and keep it at that. Anyone can make a mainstream site and throw up gambling banners. The affiliates at this conference have gambling spefific portals, therefore none of this ‘mainstream’ stuff is going to help us.

Nice and steady Captain!! greek39

August 22, 2006 at 6:40 am #703005AnonymousInactiveI have one simple response……………I am leaving Vegas EARLY, I will be departing on 14 September. I for one will NOT be attending CAC in Vegas.

I fail to see how the sensationalising of people hurt in accidents and autopsy photos etc contributes anything to society. Heck I was one of the affiliates who removed Golden Palace over the auctioning of baby names so I wouldn’t hesitate to remove programs that support this kind of site.
Trends only become trends if we allow it. Time to pull back from the online world if this is the way of the internet.

I’ve been stewing over this all night and the one thing that really strikes me is what a slap-in-the-face insult this is to any responsible, hard-working webmaster.
These are bright people who have an eagerness to learn and succeed with their sites and they want to do this in a way that does not compromise their principles. This should be supported in every way possible, without dangling the carrot of “the darkside,” which is EXACTLY what is being presented with Ogrish’s participation at the CAC.
Marc–you can’t just feed affiliates (and other industry folk) what YOU want. While I realize that you make the bulk of your moolah off sponsorships, it stands to reason that if affiliates don’t attend, the sponsors surely won’t follow.
It’s time to be sensible. Raise the bar on what you present–the industry is thirsting for high-level, valuable knowledge. If you can find the sleaze, surely you can find the cream. Whatever you decide, I just hope you realize how you’ve truly underestimated the ethics and values of those you profit from.
August 22, 2006 at 12:25 pm #703032vladcizsolMemberHold the presses we have a major announcement regarding this discussion.
CAC has decided to remove that session due to the overwhelming negative response to the announcement. Marc legitimately wanted to present alternative means of gaining traffic and had no intention of offending the affiliate community. I discussed this with him this morning and he was surprised at the level of concern everyone had. As a result he said to me “If this topic really bothers everyone that much then its off the agenda. CAC is about bringing people together not creating rifts. “
I certainly appreciate Marc’s gesture and am thankful to everyone that expressed their concerns in this thread. Now lets get back to party planning for Vegas!
August 22, 2006 at 12:39 pm #703036AnonymousInactiveAs Professor had said above, we have removed Mr. Hewitt from Ogrish speaking at the event.
The last three pages, along with the e-mails and phone calls I received over the last 24 hours came as a complete surprise. Thanks to all of you for your comments.
We want this event to be the cutting edge of what is going on with internet marketing for online gaming. We want CAC to hear both sides of the story, good and bad. We never sought to create anger, certainly not at these levels.
As a result of the overwhelming negativity, we have removed Mr. Hewitt from speaking.
If there is anything to be gained from this thread, you should note the trend that I pointed out. I am not saying you have to do anything about it, just know that the trend is there.

Las VegasAugust 22, 2006 at 2:21 pm #703060AnonymousInactiveGreat decision, Marc.
CAC is there for affiliates and adjusting the agenda to their liking is the kind of responsiveness I like to see.
There are better ways to create sticky sites.
August 22, 2006 at 2:28 pm #703065AnonymousInactivegreedygirls suite still sounds like the better option to me :rasta:

August 22, 2006 at 2:46 pm #703073AnonymousInactiveI must agree AXL, nice private setting would be nice. Although I do appreciate Marc’s removal of this speaker, I will not be attending. People either see it or they don’t. I am not into glorifying myself, instead I will concentrate on my sites. greek39
August 22, 2006 at 2:59 pm #703082AnonymousInactiveI hope you reconsider , Greek.
We have successfully removed the offending item.
At this point you are only punishing a hundred webmasters or more who need this info badly.
August 22, 2006 at 3:40 pm #703090AnonymousInactiveGood stuff, Marc.
Greek–the offer to use the suite is still open to you, however, I agree with Dom’s last post on the matter. It’s your call, though and you have to do what you feel best doing.
