Hayden Hewitt (Co-Owner of Ogrish.com) will discuss how Ogrish was formed, how it became popular and what the site’s goal is.
He will also discuss his traffic and why he believes the site is so popular.
This workshop differs from past Casino Affiliate Convention workshops. We noticed over the last 3 years that certain websites outside of the gaming space are obtaining extremely high levels of web traffic. More suprising from these sites is also that they are gaining high levels of stickiness. These sites serve as independent news media that show graphic content, not seen on most television news broadcasts or printed in newspapers.
We thought it best for the casino affiliates at this event to explore WHY there is an increasing interest in this trend, as the traffic levels for these sites are impressive.
WORKSHOP: Niche Websites with High Traffic and High Stickiness

For those of you that don’t know about Ogrish…take a look at their Alexa ranking – which varies between 800 and 1500.
See you in Vegas!!!

Their content is extremely disturbing, gratuitously violent and may even encourage extremists to commit attrocities since they have a public platform to display their beheadings and such.
While I support the right of free speach and adult access to information, Ogrish oftens crosses the line of responsible behavior and plays to the lowest common denominator of human nature.
August 21, 2006 at 3:13 pm #702846AnonymousInactiveThanks for your comments Lou. I spoke for several hours with Mr. Hewitt (the owner of Ogrish.com) on the phone. He is not the type of person others would assume. He is extremely intelligent, well read, understands the internet, current events. He doesn’t have a ‘political agenda,’ and he claims that he is not associated with any terrorist or terrorist groups. What he does not like is how the media attempts to ‘beautify war’ and violence. In that scope, his site’s aim is to show the reality of war and violence, as graphic as it may be. ‘The naked truth’ he said to me…..
Depart from that, the Casino Affiliate Convention focuses on TRAFFIC. Over the last 2-3 years, sites like Ogrish have generated enormous amounts of traffic. More importantly, they also have extremely high levels of STICKINESS. Why are these sites generating such high traffic? What is producing the stickiness? Look at each of their alexa rankings. Ogrish.com was at 1500 last time I checked. They have been as high as 800. That’s more than Gambling911.com and most superaffiliate websites.
Whether you like the content of the site or not, I thought that there would be a strong possibility of something to learn here. THAT is the focus of CAC. Bad or good ideas, we want to hear it.
Sites like this are certainly of interest to online gaming. Party Poker is ALL over the website UselessJunk.com. There are many more examples. For most in the industry, they are paying attention to BRAVO and ESPN’s Poker TV shows, or other media on the web. Ogrish and sites like it are a trend on the web that many in this industry have not noticed. And for this industry not to notice something is RARE.

Stardust Resort & CasinoAugust 21, 2006 at 3:30 pm #702847AnonymousInactiveI don’t think it is wise to have any connection between this industry and terrorist activities.
This site is over the top.
August 21, 2006 at 4:01 pm #702856AnonymousInactiveI took a look at this site, it is DISGUSTING.

The methods they use to acquire traffic and establish stickiness are not relevant to our business.
Sorry I disagree that this site and others like it are relevant to the online gaming business.
August 21, 2006 at 4:25 pm #702862AnonymousInactiveNothing sticky there for me, sorry.
August 21, 2006 at 4:50 pm #702863AnonymousInactivewell, i did like the site,
but indeed i dont see relevancy for our bussiness,(someone finely make a real good strippoker program!!)
August 21, 2006 at 5:27 pm #702870AnonymousInactiveExtremely Sick
Mark, you have went off the deep end on this one.
August 21, 2006 at 6:11 pm #702876AnonymousInactiveI never, ever visit sites like ogrish.com, because images and videos like that make me sick. I will not be attending this session. I don’t care how much traffic they receive; I don’t want to be anywhere near this garbage.
August 21, 2006 at 6:18 pm #702879AnonymousInactiveThe issue is not about if you agree with the content. His presentation will not be showing the content from his site. What concerned me, as should you is the TREND.
Forget the content for a minute and think about this.
Here is a guy who has a site that produces more web traffic than the majority of affiliates. Then there are sites like comegetyousome.com, run by a guy with NO HTML experience, who over the last 3 months has gotten more traffic and stickiness than most affiliates in the gaming industry that have been working for years on their sites.
Quote:Sorry I disagree that this site and others like it are relevant to the online gaming business. Then explain to me why casino affiliate managers are lining up to meet this guy? Why is PartyPoker all over the site UselessJunk (for at least the last 18 months)? Why are other gaming sites advertising on similar sites? No relevance? I’m sorry, there is factual relevance as they are clearly generating traffic as affiliates and advertisers for your industry. I like to keep my mind open to new things so I can detect trends. To me, this is a trend. Ignorance to trends means lost revenue opportunities.
I’m not concerned with the content. ITS THE TREND. Sites like this are popular and have been growing. We want to discuss why. Maybe you might get an idea from it to apply for your site (non-graphic). Maybe not. This happens all the time at the Casino Affiliate Convention.
You clearly have issues with his content, I do as well. You can tell him yourself. At least, hear him out. He is not the keynote speaker. There are two other sessions going on at the same time. So go somewhere else.
Think about this: At least he’s not a site scraper

yorktown wrote:Think about this: At least he’s not a site scraperAugust 21, 2006 at 6:33 pm #702882AnonymousInactiveSorry, in my opinion this guy needs to experience some of the things portrayed on his site.
The other sites you mention may be examples for something interesting, but if even one casino program advertises on Ogrish, the industry has politically had it.
Terrorist shit, for crying out loud.
I am not attending that session. Unless I get to physically torture the guy until he pulls that crap offline.
Content matters.
August 21, 2006 at 6:40 pm #702883AnonymousInactiveI personally could care less who is lining up to speak with this guy and who believes this is a trend.
What do those sites have in common with the normal gaming portal and for that matter 99% of them? Hell, tons of porn sites advertise party poker; are they relevant to my gaming portals too?
What exactly is the trend you speak about? That these type sites appear to be becoming popular and we want to know why? Even if these sites are busy sites and they run gambling ads; how in the world does it relate to my gaming portal? IMO I say they dont relate at all!
As the captain said you have went off the deep end here.
Hell bringing in some site scraper dudes would be of more value than this.
August 21, 2006 at 11:53 pm #702911AnonymousInactiveHey Mark,
