    The forum software market is crowded and getting more crowded. The existing and dominant players include vbulletin, Vanilla Forums, XenForo, phpbb, myBB and SimpleMachines to name a few. A few newcomers include NodeBB, Discourse and Muut.

    The new forum softwares have the advantage of speed based on advancements in programming languages and databases namely Node.js and MongoDB and Redis.

    NodeBB is just a few years old and uses NodeJS and you can configure it with a database like MongoDB or Redis. The end result is clean forum software using minimal code and loading very fast.

    We interviewed Julian Lam from NodeBB.org to talk about their software and it looks very promising.

    The hosted solution isn’t cheap but on the flipside you can download it for free as it is open source and you can install it on your servers.
