There is a link to the complete Barney Frank bill titled ‘The Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007’ in the article.

Dang, beat me to it. Here’s a link to gambling 911s article on the bill.

The Act establishes a federal regulatory and enforcement framework to license companies to accept bets and wagers online from individuals in the U.S., to the extent permitted by individual states, Indian tribes and sport leagues. All such licenses would include protections against underage gambling, compulsive gambling, money laundering and fraud.

Looks like more than just a repeal, but more of full on regulation.

I have to say in principal I agree with a lot of what the new legislation is setting out to acheive. I have not read the full bill, but I do think regulation is FAR better then the current situation.

I also do not see it as an immediate death knell for affiliates. I promote legal products and services and do quite well on the retail side so I dont think its mandatory that online gambling be in a dark grey area for us to earn good money promoting it.

Nothing is ever going to be 100% perfect and spot on with what everyone wants, but I do feel that this is a step in the right direction and it opens up the dialogue of repeal which is a major accomplishment.

if they allow a state override, that would in its current form make horse racing, lotteries and fantasy bets illegal in those states as well.. So there is a lot to be considered.

It all sounds like great news to me, and I agree with you Professor. Having a fully white industry is better in the long run than the gray area we are currently in.

This is clearly the correct and logical direction for the government to take. And, for us as an affiliate, we always have and will operate in the most professional and credible manner anyway, so this supports our goals.
