I’ve got some particularly nasty programs that I’m trying to get rid of on my computer and they keep reinstalling themselves. I’ve run Ad Aware, Spybot, and Aluria and it looks like Clientman is the main one that keeps reinstalling itself.
Any advice anyone can share with me?
I’m desperate to get rid of this particularly insidious scumware. It’s highlighting certain words on the text of websites and making it impossible for me to access certain directory categories. And it’s even hijacking my Google results and replacing them with its own search results.
HELP please!?!? Anyone?

and HEADACHE saving is to make a CLONE of your hard drive and
be up and running in minutes any time this sort of thing happens.
Norton Ghost is excellent … I know it won’t help you in the short
run … but personally I would NEVER use a computer without
at least one CLONE of it … try it … you will never go back.

The last one I had that could not be removed by any of the removers turned out to be so simple:
Search you computer for ” popup killer “
If you find it, delete it.
Then run aluria.
If this doesn’t work, search for other terms like it, such as popup remover, spyware killer and such. They like to hide programs behind these terms and as long as that file exists on your computer none of the removal tools will work.
I hope this helps!
There will be a lot of scum targeting the search engines in the near future. It is a natural reaction to the PPC problems in our industry.
May 2, 2004 at 4:12 pm #648722AnonymousGuestHi,
I don’t know if this is 100% or not; but one thing that will help stop it in the future is after you’ve been surfing someplace you think might be suspect of putting this crap on your PC; is do a search for files added for that day and delete anything you don’t reckognize.have you went to their site and looked for a way to take their crap off your PC? that worked once for me. I clicked on properties to see where the site was that was serving the banner ads and then typed that into my browser; a little while later I found a link there to take it off my PC.
sorry, but I can’t remember the site; but its not likely the same thing anyway. But try what I said and maybe it will work.

that one is particularly nasty. a buddy of mine got that one and had it re-writing the google serps.
he got rid of it by using “hijackthis”
i also had some nasty spyware sometime back … and i too downloaded the hijackthis program, but due to the icon you use to execute this, i was more scared of the hijackthis program than the spyware.
however my buddy assured me after he used it, that it’s safe…. but he said be careful and read all the instructions it gives you.
(the executable icon is a picture of some explosives and a detonator)
… in the end, because I was too scared to use hijackthis, I used Norton A.V. 2004 and it worked great.

It was the nastiest program I’ve ever had on my computer. Awful.
