Hi, I’d love any feedback on my site (listed in sig). We just launched 3 weeks ago, and of course aren’t really getting any real traffic yet (though I see we got crawled by google last week!). I’m adding more content this week in the form of strategy articles, and the ability for players to submit their own strategy articles as well. I was wondering if anyone could give me any feedback or suggestions, especially on how to improve ‘stickiness’. Right now I feel like there isn’t really any reason for people to keep coming back to my site, and I need to improve that, but I’m still working on just how to do it. Anyway, great to be here and I appreciate any thoughts anyone has. Thanks.

Right now your boxes blend together too much (in my opinion), so it appears like too much information. My urge was to scan the boxes with my eyes and nothing caught my attention.

November 29, 2005 at 2:26 am #677435AnonymousInactiveI like the site, and I like the idea of user ratings being included, but I think it would be a big value add to include a detailed account of your own opinion of the poker room. Most of the stuff in the facts boxes is info that’s readily avaialble in a number of places online, but YOUR opinion isn’t. Your voice and your opinions are crucial to success, IMO.
November 29, 2005 at 4:07 am #677444AnonymousInactiveThat’s a good point, and it’s info I had considered including when I first thought of the site. I thought that maybe my review could count for 50% of the overall rating and everyone else’s could be the other 50%. In the end I just did it as is because I wanted to get launched, and it was taking too long already, but perhaps I could add a link for each site to a review by me section or something. The only problem is, I haven’t played at all of the sites (or even most of them), so it would be hard for me to be anything but full of sh** when I did my reviews. Thanks a lot for the feedback.
November 29, 2005 at 5:31 am #677449AnonymousInactiveSisko you will get there in the end… once you start earning then i recommend that you visit the sites and do a proper review. Make yourself trusted! And how can you sell something to someone that you know nothing/very little about.
All thesites you promote you should believe in, product wise… yes you can say they are all the same, they are all very similar, etc… but that is why the users will come to your site. to find out which ones are different and why they are beneficial to them.
i like the site… like someone mentioned before the black background is a no-no. Do some research on what backgrounds you should have… unfortunatly white background, black text is most favorable. Boring maybe, userfriendly YES.
Good luck and keep on adding content EVERYDAY and you will be successful

Thanks a lot for the feedback.Patience is a virtue If you haven’t played at a site then know what you should do? Go play at it. You need to find out everything you can about the site, and be able to give the visitors a unique opinion. Don’t be lazy and just get excited about getting launched….it’s a lot better to wait a month and get a worthwhile site up, than it is to launch immediately with not much at all. And to be honest, a site entitled “pokersitesrated” where the webmaster hasn’t played at most of the poker rooms? That’s a big turnoff. Don’t mean to be harsh or anything, just giving my opinion.
I agree with kwblue; differentiate the boxes somehow. I’d focus more on the site reviews, make them your main focus. I’d also change the format of reviews completely, and make it a lot more easy to view. Looking in 6 different boxes just seems pointless.
December 4, 2005 at 8:36 pm #677833AnonymousInactiveHi Dealerdan. Thanks for the feedback. I’m definitely going to add reviews of rooms that I’ve played in the very near future. The original idea behind the site was that all the sites in the directory would be rated and reviewed by visitors, because it is a little bit of a different twist on what most people are doing. Most sites have so called “un-biased” reviews of a few select rooms. From some players perspective, it would be hard to know if these reviews are honest, or if that room simply has the best affilate deal. My idea was that visitors would get a lot better sense of where other players actually play if ratings and reviews were done by other players. Just trying to carve a slightly different niche, in that sense.
As far as the boxes go, do you think that 1 large box would look better for the ‘facts’ section about each site? It could include all the same facts that are currently in 3 different boxes. I still want to maintain that unbiased ‘feel’ as much as possible.
Not being lazy, honest. We’ve been working very hard on this site building it from the ground up since September. Both my web designer and I have full time jobs, and he has kids, so it’s still a part time endeavor. We’ll get there, though. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at it.

A lot of that depends on the copy you use to write about the poker room. If you write honest reviews, you won’t have that problem. If you write “sales letters” or “ad copy”, then yeah, poker players in particular will smell that a mile away.
December 5, 2005 at 4:49 pm #677869AnonymousInactiveI’m not suggesting that anyone here would do that. But yeah, you’re right and when I add my reviews I’ll definitely be honest and fair. I was more just trying to suggest that that perception could be out there.
December 5, 2005 at 9:55 pm #677897AnonymousInactiveHi there,
Overall Site Layout:
Colors: As others have stated already, black is not always beautiful on websites. But there are exceptions: I am not sure why, but it looks ok to me with the dark green frame.
The Boxes: Great, definitely stay with the small ones I’d say. But be careful, if you plan to add more categories.
The Fonts: Clear font with no bells and whistles – works perfectly to give your site a sound, unbiased look and feel.Concept:
It’s a nice idea to involve the readers with the site. People will come back and see what other people think about sites they rated. Longer term, maybe you should think about a way to provide some kind of incentive to the review writers (something like ranks maybe? But then again, that does not work too well with the anonymous ratings..)Content:
To date, and I am probably stating the obvious here, you have too few entries in the non-“poker sites” categories. The “Suggest a Site” option should be a web-form in my opinion.
Good Luck!

This would give people incentive to return and submit new reviews as time goes by. Over time certain reviewers could be ‘worth more’ as they prove their unbiasedness. This is still just floating around in my head, gotta see if my web designer thinks he can do it, of course, and there are a lot of other things we need to implement. But, yeah, I definitely like the idea.

FreerollerAgreed on both counts. Working on finding more sites all the time.
Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
