Nothing that newsworthy but I typed out what they were talking about on CNN moneyline this morning –

    Im watching CNN –

Google is being challenged by MSN and YAHOO as they are set to topple google. 1 in 5 people who goes to a search engine are thinking shopping and those people spent 53 billion dollars last year up 20 % from the year before. The two smaller competitors are spending MILLIONS of dollars in an attempt to topple googles #1 search engine status and unseating them as the top search site.

As a result, google expanded its services this week.

I bought the New York Times a couple of weeks ago on my way to Costa Rica because it had a long article in it about how MSN was getting poised to make a big move on the search market.

I gave it to the Captain to read, perhaps he recalls more details.

Of course MSN search is microsoft, and it has lots and lots of resources to back it.

My prediciton is that Yahoo and MSN are going to give Google a run for its money.

I am glad to see it. :D

MSN and Yahoo will roll over Google like a Mac Truck….

These are two legitimate giants while Google is a techie darling thats finally getting a reality check.

Remember Netscape? Oh yeah, the illuminati loved them too. What’s their market share now?

Unfortunately we have to live with them.

I would rather see the power distributed and the SEs competing than the monopoly we have had here.

I would have to agree with this Professor.

I think it would be wise for the Illuminati to first

sucker billions of dollars out of the public with their IPO …

and then wipe out all their investment.

    :D

Laid off from Ebay, Lycos, Quote.com

MSN search continues to be vaporware at this point. When Longhorn appears in 2005 expect Microsoft to try to integrate search into it even more than it is now, but they still will have to deliver quality results.

Google’s market dominance is expanding each month, and should continue to do so until Yahoo gets a decent product set up, and MSN actually has a search engine.

Lol, Classic, you sure have a way of rubbing people the wrong way, saying what nobody wants to hear. :D

I find your posts interesting, you look at things from a totally different perspective.

In my opinion google will expand until shortly after it goes public. Then it will contract, and if Yahoo and MSN are going to be as agressive as I think they will be, google will keep contracting for some time.

You have to also take into account that people like us, advertisers, have a say over what happens with the advertising money spent on the web. And the casino industry controls quite a bit of that.

The users and readers of this very board are probably quite a significant part of who makes search engines and PPCs profitable.

I personally have had it with google, up to here! And I know many of my peers do too.

We will all start looking at Yahoo and MSN and figure out how to best position ourselves there – because it has great potential for the future.

Never underestimate the power of a free marketplace!

It giveth and it taketh away!

    Yeah.

It takes some doing to change habits.

Especially reflexive “muscle” habits – such as typing “google.com” into the address bar………

No one would be happier than I to see Google put in its place. But since Yahoo changed over, my yahoo hits are DOWN! grrrr

And, don’t underestimate how agressive MSN will be. I used to work for them…..but you don’t inside history to see how agressive they have been and are.

Well if nobody wants to hear that Microsoft routinely promises more than it delivers, better get lots of ear muffs.

Search is hard. There are millions of pages that mention search words, and only one can be first. It’s almost a miracle that anybody ever gets anything right.

‘Google’s market dominance is expanding each month, and should continue to do so until Yahoo gets a decent product set up, and MSN actually has a search engine.’

I have to disagree with this entirely. MSN is still the homepage and search engine of choice for the majority of net surfers who are not net savvy. Furthermore MSN will be releasing a search engine in the upcoming months. The msn.com website has also received significant makeovers, and each one being significantly superior to its predecessor.

The main problem that surfers reported with yahoo (and the main reason that surfers chose google) for the longest time was that google had no banners. Yahoo took this approach recently. Now that the results at Yahoo are far superior to google there is no need for anyone to go to a different website that offers mediocre results when Yahoo offers a lot more.

Also, how is google gaining market share when they just lost their main partner?

As far as I’m concerned, I gave up on google when I tried to find travel deals several months ago and all I got was spammed results, the same page over and over again but with different titles. I used msn, but now that Yahoo has inktomi results, they are my default search engine of choice.

    Go inktomi!

Microsoft was why the term “vaporware” was coined – and like Classics, I’ll believe it when I see it.

However, I most definitely disagree that Google’s market dominance is expanding. Yahoo’s results aren’t half bad even though their engine isn’t as sophisticated as Google’s. And Google’s last update was absolute crap.

With Yahoo no longer relying on Google, there is simply no way that Google’s market dominance is going to expand. I wouldn’t be surprised to see AOL Time Warner properties drop Google when the contract is up…
