September 10, 2007 at 9:08 am #748276AnonymousInactiveHi there cagney12 and freecc,
Thanks for posting – the affiliate in question has been contacted and spoken too.
I did receive a copy of his emails and he does have an unsubscribe link in the email. Please be sure to unsubscribe as an additional precautionary measure.
All the best,
Shane

Give me a break. Who would be stupid enough to unsubscribe to something they never subscribed to??????
That’s like saying ‘Hey spammer – this is a REAL email account that is monitored – please sell this address to all your spammer friends. Now I will send it porn, prescription, and stock spam’
September 10, 2007 at 12:22 pm #748289AnonymousInactiveThank you Shane, had I subscribed in the first place, I would not be here posting, further more….that unsubscribe button wasn’t working.
September 10, 2007 at 12:33 pm #748290AnonymousInactiveI have to agree with kwblue
Hitting the unsubscribe would be absurd and a sure way to obliterate a working e-mail addy.Stronger penalties and or the PERMANENT removal of offending affiliates from your program for violating your terms and conditions would be a wiser route to go.
TOUGH LOVE – Works every time

Aaaw where is the faith, this is not a spammer affiliate by any means, he purchased some lists which he believed to be clean and in fact has promised to remove any email addresses which (a) we pass on to him as being fellow affiliates or (b) use the unsub link.
Re the unsub link it was in fact working when we tested it on the email we received via a 3rd party.

Normally I would agree but since I know this affiliate very well I felt secure enough to recommend that route… but I’ve also been around this game a while and would never suggest anything which would increase the spam intake of anyones inbox
September 10, 2007 at 4:40 pm #748307AnonymousGuestHere’s the thing Shane.
I appreciate your attention and approach.
however KW makes the ultimate point. only a fool or a newbie unsubscribes to a spam letter.
that’s what makes email marketing so dangerous. there’s really no getting around this.
September 11, 2007 at 6:24 pm #748413AnonymousInactiveSo you’re basically saying if you know us we can get permission to spam?
and NO, the unsubscribe button didn’t work in the mail I received, not that I want to use it, as KW states, it just invites more, but I tried again, and it isn’t working, there is no removal.September 12, 2007 at 8:45 am #748492AnonymousInactive@bb1webs 138134 wrote:

I agree totally BB1, however you will see that my comment in this regard to KWBlue states clearly that this is “in this instance only” direction… I would in NO WAY make it a matter of standard practice… this was a ONE OFF suggestion.
This is a problem with list brokers who promise the world and mix genuine opt in’s with scraped addresses… so my suggestion to all is if you must pursue email marketing:
a. buy/rent from reputable companies
b. use a well known mailing house to deliver as they often have suppression files
c. always be SpamCan compliant (ie address + genuine unsubscribe link).@cagney12 138134 wrote:

I can understand your frustration Cagney however I never suggested or implied this in anything I posted.
I’ve dealt with this affiliate for many years – although I am no longer his account manager – and when contacted he was very apologetic as it was not his intention to spam, he is simply trying to increase his revenue in marekt that has grown a lot tighter like you all are.
I did clearly state that “he purchased some lists which he believed to be clean” and that he “has promised to remove any email addresses which (a) we pass on to him as being fellow affiliates or (b) use the unsub link“.
I do take your point about the link not working however when we tested the link in one of emails which we received it did work. It could however be a different email to the one you received… something I can’t tell unless you send me the mail you received.
Cagney12, this specific point was however reemphasised with him after reading your comment of “there is no removal”.
September 13, 2007 at 12:36 am #748579AnonymousInactiveShane, when I puchase a list, I email the list and have them opt in to receive future offers etc, I would not just start using it, my opt in return on those mails is generally about 70 percent, still worth purchasing the list, but avoids any spam reports.

Thanks, thats good advice!
I will suggest this to the affiliate in question…. and any others who ask me about mailing campaigns in future.

Like any other sane individual I am not going to “unsubscribe” (AKA confirm that a valid email address was spammed). I must applaud the spammer though, as Google was fooled into thinking that it was a legitimate email.
September 22, 2007 at 12:24 pm #749679AnonymousInactiveAnd only minutes later, the exact same email again…
What’s the point of sharing/selling email addresses of registered players to promote signup offers which they aren’t eligible for?
