An open network is looking pretty risky. Read the opening paragraphs below then check out the entire article above:
Quote:A security lapse made it possible for unwelcome strangers to peruse personal photos posted on Facebook Inc.’s popular online hangout, circumventing a recent upgrade to the Web site’s privacy controls. The Associated Press verified the loophole Monday after receiving a tip from a Byron Ng, a Vancouver, Canada computer technician. Ng began looking for security weaknesses last week after Facebook unveiled more ways for 67 million members to restrict access to their personal profiles.
But the added protections weren’t enough to prevent Ng from pulling up the most recent pictures posted by Facebook members and their friends, even if the privacy settings were set to restrict the audience to a select few.

Idiots.

RickMarch 25, 2008 at 9:22 am #764099AnonymousInactiveso which one of you is going to try to delete your facebook account?
i thought about it, almost did it, and then realised that there are people (that i will not contact even if a tsunami hit my house) that i would like to have on my contact list…now that’s strange…
March 25, 2008 at 9:35 am #764102AnonymousInactiveI haven’t tried but someone told me it is extremely hard to close and delete an account – If anyone has done this, let me know how hard it is and if all the data really does dissappear.
I saw a facebook profile appear in google for the first time the otherday when searching someone – The problem is not everyone knows you need to adjust your security settings to stop things like that happening
March 25, 2008 at 12:01 pm #764118MonikerAlMemberI’ve closed my account several times which is easy enough, however as soon as you log in with your original email address used to sign up in the 1st place, the FB account is as it was at the time of closing, nothing deleted
As annoying as FB is, it does have it’s uses (not sure if thats a good or bad thing..)

That’s funny, i have people on my contact list that i would push into a tsunami
The site is really about self promotion, people trying to pimp themselves or their product
March 25, 2008 at 7:06 pm #764163AnonymousInactiveEvery now and then someone sends me a Facebook link. On occasion I click on it because it’s someone I know… and every time I get to Facebook it asks me to log in or register an account.
Needless to say, I close that window. I don’t have a Facebook account now and I don’t anticipate getting one either.
While I understand the value of social networking, I think that if I want to share information with friends and family, either I can do it through my blog, or I can do it through my own programming. Ain’t no way I am going to potentially give access to my personal details on one of these sites.
April 7, 2008 at 2:28 pm #765072urbanjapanMemberI agree…
It’s annoying that you have to sign up in order to do anything on that site..
They should at least let you use some aspects of the site while trying to offer you to sign up.. They shouldn’t block everything until you sign up.
I think that this is driving many people away from Facebook.

April 7, 2008 at 2:52 pm #765074AnonymousInactiveYeah, but you have to register for a forum also, otherwise we would all be drowning in spam. I am sure it’s the same for them…
April 7, 2008 at 6:10 pm #765087ezybetsMemberi used to have a facebook profile but after few weeks i really got bored of FB and deleted my profile. my privacy is more precious than to make it available for millions of internet users. if i want to find somebody i can ask a friend/family to contact them. the people who are close to me i have their emails and other contact details, so i can contact them easily.
April 7, 2008 at 9:42 pm #765112AnonymousInactiveIm actually one of those people who thinks its the right thing to do to have to sign up to be able to do anything.
The other thing you are able to do is block certain people from being able to find you. This has come in handy for me unfortunately.
April 8, 2008 at 1:12 am #765129AnonymousGuestHi all (R),

ah-ha! That explains why my tasteful digital pictures of a little get-together amongst myself and some circus friends … didn’t make it to you.
All I can say is your missing out. This one had pictures of dancing bear going topless.
April 8, 2008 at 2:00 am #765137AnonymousInactiveLOL
Actually I had a stalker a few years back… all the way in Canada… anyway. Off topic. Definitely noone from here
Carry on. -
