From today’s CAP Newswire:
November 3, 2008 (InfoPowa News) — Malaysian media reports over the weekend indicate that authorities are considering a significant tightening of regulations on massage parlours, which in some cases are being used as fronts for prostitution and illegal online gambling.
Officials in Kuantan have already warned operators that they will not hesitate to revoke licenses if massage parlours are found to be used for anything other than hedonistically healthy practices like toning up the body.
Interestingly, local newspapers found that patrons tend to be more interested in online gambling than semi-naked and available massagers willing to go the extra mile for reward and their clients. So much so that Councillor Datuk Azizan Ahmad says action needs to be taken and a zero-tolerance policy adopted
“If they [massage parlour operators] conduct activities other than those listed in their licenses, such as gambling and prostitution, we should cancel the licenses,” he said.
The council agreed, and infringements of licensing conditions could henceforth involve not just a fine but losing the business entirely.
