In a July 31 e-mail obtained by the Financial Times, Bill Wichterman – a Washington lobbyist for the NFL who served as a top adviser to former Republican majority leader Bill Frist – encouraged conservative groups to co-sign a letter to Congress that ostensibly was written by Focus on the Family. “The threat posed by the Frank legislation is very real, and we must actively work against it,” Mr Wichterman wrote.
The letter was co-signed by the Christian Coalition and American Values, among others. It urged members of Congress to protect the integrity of the 2006 Act, and cautioned that lawmakers should be wary of “misinformation campaigns” by “foreign gambling interests”.

Nothing new there. Far right wing special interests promote THEIR private agendas and claim they are trying to protect the American public from other special interests.

Well, that proves what I always said, the NFL is behind this whole mess.
You’re both correct! In addition, you have other major league sports behind it. The NFL is the worst. That’s why I’m surprised so many people, including myself – to be competitive) promote them. That’s why they came out with the NFL fantasy program
The NFL has their fingers in the pie too. Probably because thier core demographic was online playing poker when they wanted them planted in front of the TV watching the game. But there are quite a few others who are “behind” this mess including Harrah’s and some of the land based casinos.
It seems that people don’t realize (ie. the NFL, The Register, etc.) that the ‘foreign gambling interests’ the NFL and Focus on the Family is fighting against is actually Casino Gambling Web, who is representing the American people, not the billion dollar foreign gambling industry.
