Yup. ?627,000!! [EDIT – Pounds. GBP currency. For whatever reason CAP replaces the symbol with a ?] There are a couple other ancillary fees as well, though they barely register in comparison. All in all however, at current xe.com rates, the full fine pushes up near $1,000,000 USD.
Internet casino provider and bookmaker LeoVegas has incurred the wrath of the U.K. Gambling Commission and is being forced to pay a penalty of ?627,000. For our non UK readers, this is approximately $850,000 USD at current exchange rates. This judgment stems from LeoVegas’ misleading advertisements, failure to repay the balances of self-excluded individuals, and allowing self-excluded customers to gamble on its online platform. This case is thoroughly described in a posting on the Gambling Commission’s website dated May 2, 2018.
This is but one of a slew of fines that have been flowing out of the UKGC and ASA lately. I posted just last week about Tabcorp being nailed as did user joeggg when he posted last month about the UK ordering “childish slots” to be removed.
However, that is just a small sample of what has been going on. Poker Stars, the largest online poker company in the world with a massive and highly paid legal team mind you, got smacked with a fine for a poker commercial. A commercial where, hold on to your seats, a recreational player BLUFFED in a HOME GAME of poker. How absurd.
Still, it’s not just about operators. Even affiliates got hit with stern warnings over unsubstantiated claims:
On May 2, the ASA determined that Oddsmonkey breached the CAP Code rules about making unsubstantiated claims and misleading advertising. The most ridiculous line in the ruling, in our opinion, was: ?However, we noted that the process ? which included meeting the requirements to unlock the ‘free’ bets and manually placing the correct bets with separate gambling operators simultaneously while odds fluctuated ? was long-winded and open to human error.?
This regulator is going nuts But hey, don’t you feel more protected as a consumer?:rolleyes:
