The continuing economic recession is still hurting Las Vegas casinos — pretty badly, as it turns out. The question is, does that spell a positive trend for online gambling? Read more here.

Overall, one would have to think that online gambling would have a negative effect on Las Vegas. After all, it’s a lot easier and more convenient to turn on your computer and play, than have to physically go some where.

What percentage of Las Vegas patrons are local vs. visitors ? If the majority of patrons are local players (in the surrounding Las Vegas area), then their immediate economy can certainly explain the declining gambling in the area. Las Vegas has been the hardest hit economy, real-estate wise, with home values plummeting as much as 67 % in some area, over the last couple of years. This alone, could explain why Las Vegas casinos are hurting. If the majority of patrons are coming from outside the Las Vegas area, then you can certainly blame the economy (to a lesser extent), and also put some blame on online gambling. If the latter is the case, then you would think that the US government would get off their rears to do something about this — like encourage (legalize) the Las Vegas entities to go online.
