I guess because they wanted affiliates to continue promoting them until the very last minute… Or maybe there were meetings and battles going on behind the scenes.
Still, why today? Another group (Grand Prive, I think) is staying in the U.S. until December 1. Why can’t Rewards and everyone else do this, too? :tooconfus

We’d like to inform all affiliates that effective Monday November 10, 2008 we will no longer be accepting any new registrations from players residing in the USA. Existing USA players will be able to play as normal.
We understand that USA traffic is the majority of the commission maker for some affiliates. For this reason we have a few factors that may help lessen the financial loss.
Bounce Back Link: This has been operational for a couple of years now at RA, however I’m not certain many affiliates know exactly what it does.. Basically, you enter a URL on the bounce back link page in your aff account for where you’d like to send any banned/blocked traffic. So in essence, if you had any US traffic clicking on a link for one of our casinos, they would then be redirected to the URL you have entered into your aff account, including an aff link for another casino which takes US traffic.
Existing US players: Existing US players will continue to play as normal. As you know, our retention team here is in it’s best standing since we opened our doors, and in order to help keep these players playing, we will be offering the existing US players some excellent retention offers.
Promotional Material: We understand that some affiliates will need to diversify into other markets, which is why we are proud to let you know that our creative database is the biggest it has ever been. We are currently providing affiliates with literally thousands of up to date banners, flash banners and mailers, as well as targeted splash pages for languages such as French, Italian, Spanish, Danish, German and more in USD, CAD, EUR and GBP, as well as targeted landing pages for specific games such as slots, roulette and blackjack. These are available across all 18 casinos and 5 poker rooms. Creatives are also available on request, so if there is anything you need that you aren’t able to find in our marketing tools, please don’t hesitate to let me know what it is you need and I’ll be right on it.New SUB at Yukon Gold Casino
In order to give your players the choice of great offers, Yukon Gold now has a new SUB:$1000 Free and 1 Hour of Free SpinsPlayers who don’t qualify for the bonus from the free spins, or who reject the free spins, are also offered a $50 free for deposit of $50 or more bonus.

And, purely from a self-interested perspective, I hope to continue to align my online gaming sites with the winners, not those companies that keep running scared everytime there is a setback.
My intention is not to pick a fight – however if a group like CR decide to pull out then you can be assured that the impact on there bottom line will way outweigh any potential ‘loss of face’ from our Affiliate community.
You should also be wary of those that DO stay within the US (casino environment, not so much poker) – because far from being ‘winners’ those that do stay are more likely than not, groups that can not afford to otherwise, would be operating almost entirely with one eye on the door/law and would/will be the first to close up shop in a hurry if the DOJ or his mates come knocking.
IMHO – Yes stick to your guns and pile your trade within the US, however those that don’t diversify, work on EU facing traffic (even if you just have a fall back) run the risk of being left high and dry by those perceived ‘winners’ that stay within the US.
November 25, 2008 at 2:26 pm #788248AnonymousInactiveI had to look up exactly what I meant by ‘winners’, because I posted that nearly three weeks ago!
Trader, you make some good points and I have to say that I agree with most of them, but it seems that Microgaming’s decision to pull out completely from the USA is something of a knee-jerk reaction to events in Kentucky and it is in that context I made my post.
November 25, 2008 at 2:34 pm #788251PredictemMemberI would hazard the MGS pulling out would be largely if not entirely influenced by the largest/largest of operators who have to much vested interest OUTSIDE of the US, and would not be able to nor want to have MGS pulled over the coals as their chosen software supplier.
