I wanted to post this out of site of both players and affiliate programs, so it’s in the Private Forums…

I’ve been promoting Absolute Poker for a while through Income Access. One nice feature on the summary report shows revenue as a percentage of deposits. I’ve been surprised to see how high this percentage is. On my account, 88.75% of deposits end up as revenue. And, since Absolute doesn’t pay on tournament action, that figure is probably higher yet, due to tournament fees.

With that percentage, that leaves only 11.25% of deposits to theoretically be won by good players. I always envisioned poker rooms as funnelling bad players’ money to the good players, and taking a small cut along the way. Apparently, that’s not it at all.

Is online poker really that tough to beat, that virtually all deposits end up as money raked? Or, are my players unusually bad? :-)

    Ken-

Even if your players are winners, the rake’s based on how much action they’re giving. So if they’re winners and they play a lot, they could theoretically contribute more to their rake than they deposited, but still be winning.

    Does that make sense?

Ah, yes, that makes sense now. It’s still a surprising figure, but it theoretically could be quite a bit more than 100%, and will actually likely be higher for better players. Thanks for the insight.

Exactly–a poker portal owner who can teach his players to be GOOD stands to make much more money than a poker portal that just runs ads…

Also–poker players tend to prefer sites with lots of content. We love to read about the game.

    Hi,

I checked and my purchase to revenue ratio is

    138.67 %

now one of you math geniuses want to tell me: does that mean I’ve got good players: or really bad players?

    :)

I’m thinking that means I have good players, because they’ve paid in rakes more than they have brought to the game to start with; is that not correct?

I imagine Randy can tell us for sure.

I’d have to say any figure 100% or more looks very good LOL. Some of that could be because of bonuses too, but on the whole I’d surmise you have players which know how to play poker :)

I’d say you’re signing up good players for sure!
