I received the following notice today

    Quote:
    Dear Speaker
The Interactive Gaming & Entertainment (IGE) conference, scheduled for November 2-4 in Orlando, FL, has been postponed. The new dates (preliminarily planned for late March/early April) are being determined and will be announced shortly.

As you know, the goal of IGE is to be the central gathering place for the interactive gaming and entertainment community internationally–the top forum for legal, regulatory, creative, advertising, technological and business developments for the industry. We have recruited you as a speaker for the event because you are one of the recognized leaders in these arenas.

The postponement was necessitated because of the current, and unfortunate, circumstances that have developed out of the Department of Justice offices located in St. Louis, Missouri. They are, as many of you are undoubtedly aware, pursuing a course of action determined to deter and hamper the offshore and online gaming industry, with intent to curtail advertising/marketing/merchandising/promotional and financial routes that are being currently pursued. They have, in fact, subpoenaed such organizations as the National Association of Broadcasters, Magazine Publishers of America, Independent Press Association, National Newspaper Association, Newspaper Association of America, the groups representing all newspapers in the country, Suburban Newspapers of America, as well as a number of others, inclusive of many sites and companies that have been accepting advertisements from offshore operators. This action has caused some of our speakers to attend to the needs of clients immediately and in the weeks ahead, and necessitated a number of attendees having to address this matter internally whether they were directly affected by it or not at this time.

Because of this unforeseen series of events, the organizers of IGE have decided to postpone the inaugural IGE event until the spring when, predictably, this latest chain of events will be discussed and addressed in detail. While we realize the situation might still be turbulent, we’re confident that the environment will be more conducive than now for this forum.

We will be in touch shortly with the new dates and other relevant information. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and look forward to continue working with you on IGE for 2004.

So, this wasn’t just a tax issue with the portal that
    was subpoenaed.
Looks like PayPal was only the beginning.
    This is not good.

Aparently the news disturbed GPWA. They removed my post about the event being posponed from their conference forum!
