For those of you who use WordPress’s all in one seo plugin make sure to check the boxes for:
    Use noindex for archives
    Use noindex for tag archives

Or you will end up with thousands of worthless pages that will kill your SEO efforts. I had to learn this lesson the hard way.

I don’t but only because I dont use that many of them and I also dont have posts on most of my home pages so I dont have dup content.

If it causes dup content or you use more than a few categories then I would also check it.

Awesome tip, Fonzi! Thank you for sharing.

For those who may be did not have these checked, are there any recovery solutions for folks? Or is it something that “what’s done is done”?

No, you can go back and change the settings. It will take google a couple of months to fully update their info.

I dont know anything about wp, but the archives should be setup so that those pages reinforce your seo efforts.

Not in this case. You end up with duplicate content and also with duplicate descriptions.

Always watch webmaster tools under HTML suggestions, this is the first place you will notice trouble like this!

I would recommend not using tag pages if possible unless you know your traffic actually uses them. If they do, then use noindex, follow as it will help pass equity to pages that are indexable
