Please don’t laugh..lol
I am reading all the threads in here about “Hosting” and Domains..etc..and i know nothing about this stuff.
I have a forum on “ezboard” and it was simple and easy to start without having to really know anything to start…i have had this site for almost two years now and i really do make ok money…about 2grand a month from my affiliates thru this website…
But it sounds like i am missing out on the real business of marketing by not knowing or having a .com
Could some one please explain to me…how you go about getting a website ..and what “hosting is” and what a “domain” is and how do i start one?
thank you for any teaching you can give me…i know its alot..and if there are sites out there that can teach me this stuff in easy to learn language…please kick me in the right direction..i am serious about making serious money..i enjoy what i am doing to much to stop and i have 24/7 to dedicate to my adventure.

A web domain name will cost you 15$ at most and hosting another 85$. Yearly that is. Seems like a tiny investment with your earnings!
If I were you, I would look for something like triple777.com or triple777forum.com

PJPS/ I had a deeper look into your forum and I see you have 850 daily visits. Impressive. May be you can also buy the code for a VBulletin forum? It will cost you 175$ once + 30$ daily if I recall that correctly and if you’re looking for an exemple: you’re looking at one. I had an ezboard for awhile, I was frustrated with it because I couldn’t do what I wanted as far as html, even with the platinum package.. If you’re making decent money, your not really going to want to move that forum.. or at leaste I wouldnt. (By the way, i started out with a yahoo group and a free server (with adds) webpage) But you could build a website.. then instead of uploading a forum, you could build around the forum so to speak …. whereas your forum link went to your ez board.. Major announcements n such could be on the website.. (when I had groups instead of sites, I intentionally announced all private tournaments on my freebie add served site (angelfire.com) so that yahoo group members would have to visit the site.. see all the banners etc.
You could do the same kind of thing with an actual .com of your own
You can get a domain cheap at godaddy, thats about all I use them for though..
Some of the little things I’ve heard about buying domains.. None of its verified, just what I read in forums

Google looks more favourably at domains that are purchased for more than one year in advance..

Once you get a site, and want to start putting things in it, you usually upload via ftp, you can build in software meant for that, in a CMS, or in notepad for that matter, it looks real intimidating after ezboard, but it isn’t so bad once ya get used to itGood Luck

PJ and Lady Holdem…Thank you so much…I really love this place…Bonusstreak turned me on to you all here..and i must thank her over and over…because i have learned so much..and i don’t feel stupid when i ask questions about things i really am not sure about…no one ever makes me feel like an idiot.

I do belive though if she switches to a standard forum at this point, from ezboard, her forums address will change.. risking a loss of visitors…
PS Please tell me $30 daily is a typo!!! I want one of those!! LOL

Yep ‘daily’ is a typo:hehe: I meant yearly!
And I was assuming you could transfer all your posts to a new forum format… and redirect the URL he has to the new one…
But you’re right… I am seeing things to simple here.:blush:
It makes me wonder whether I will add a free forum to my site from the beginning, or wait and invest the first 175$ for a VBulletin one.

.. you girlz are makin me all mushy this am Well with most forum solutions you can move your posts to the new forum, and maybe with ezboard as well, I’m not real sure.. but she doesn’t own the URL.. its theirs.. and I dunno how all that works.. I mean a hacker added a re-direct post to my forum so its definately possible..
777 – do you want to change your forum? Or are you ok with it and just want a site? I mean a site with a link on it to your forum, is the same thing we all have, just that our visitors stay within our domain.. which I’m pretty sure none of them care much about anyway, and with payment, you don’t have any ezboard adds..
