How will the recent presidential outcome affect the online casino industry? It´s hard to say exactly but my feeling is that the conservative government of George W. Bush may play into the hands of the anti-online gambling lobby in the US. Just as there were people in the past who supported prohibition there are also people who wish to ban online casinos. This lobby is strong in the US but my personal feeling on the anti online casino movement is that it may stem from corporate forces that have invested interest in land based casinos.Let’s face it; there is still a big difference between Las Vegas and casino Las Vegas online. Going to Las Vegas is a trip, it takes time and requires an investment but the experience is rich and you can have a blast in Vegas (I know I did last time I was there). On the other hand online casinos are fun and offer the option of playing great games form the comfort of your own home. You don’t need to book a plane ticket and a hotel in order to play at an online casino. And as the technology is getting better and features such as Live Dealer games have been integrated in to the gaming software, it is also becoming a richer gambling experience for the player.
There is no doubt that the online casino industry has taken some revenue away from the land based casinos. But the creative casinos have bridged a gap between the virtual and real realm of gambling and can capitalize on both sides of the coin. When something new comes along, like the online casino phenomenon, there will be some people that will feel threatened by it and will want to ban it and there will be others that will know how to adapt to the new environment and learn how to use it to their advantage.
Hopefully the coming years will see more freedom and less restrictions for the online casino business. As technology progresses the experience will become more and more realistic and offer the player a new level of excitement previously unknown on the net. Here’s to the approaching new year and new things to come.
