Hi everyone, I tried searching for this but couldn’t find an answer.

I was wondering, how long was your site(s) up before turning a profit or getting a decent amount of traffic?

    Thank you!

Of course there are always exceptions based on the creativity and vision of the site owner and their team, but usually it takes about a year to get going good with a new site, new domain.

If you work really hard, optimize your site as best you can, add content or update the site regularly and build back links you can expect to be making some good money in about 9-12 months.

I know sites that have totally blown those numbers away, but it doesnt happen that often especially in your industry. It is mainly due to the industry professionals that tried to cheat the system in the past causing more filters and rules for the ones now.

On average, if you work and study hard you can make a great living in this industry and on the Net. Be creative and think “outside the box.”

I think it took me about 5-6 months before getting my first commission check. It took a lot of work, though.

You would probably be considered one of the exceptions to the one year rule. Hopefully it was a good sized amount and allowed you to keep going with that venture. I am sure you worked very hard and racked many brain cells trying to make it work quickly and effectively.

You should share some of the things you did to get below the 9 month and 1 year marks (if you want)?

    It took 3 months.

But it was a long long time ago … and on an internet far far away …
(Back in 1999 to be honest).

These days it’s harder to turn a $$, as people are immune to most hard-sell options … but there is a lot more traffic to go around to.

I’d agree that new sites (without a network or simialr sites to point at them for traffic) will take a year or so to show tangible rewards … unless they’re a unique concept.

I guess I was lucky. Had a commission in the first month. A grand total of 25 cents. Was receiving decent commissions after 3 months, but I still am not to the point of where I know we can be. The 9-12 month estimate is a good one, it could take up to 2 years before you are really doing much. And, this assumes you treat this like a full-time endeavor. The days of spending a couple of hours a month on your site are over, this industry is way too competitive for that to work.

I was lucky, I made $75 my first month. I have always been in the black. I started in 2003, and I had a handfull of players right when I started. I was already singing the praise of online poker, so I put up a site so I could profit from it. I now make a decent income each month, but it took 2 years to get to that point.

As far as decent traffic, I hope to have that in a year or so…lol. I am just now learning all the mistakes I have made so far. All of my traffic is from poker players I personally refered. I am an avid poker player and I like to tell everyone I play with about my site. I am currently re-doing my site in a more search friendly way.

Offline marketing is actually a very good way to bring in customers. You dont even have to be in vegas to stand on a corner and give out flyers – just goto your local casino. Wal Mart may be a little harder considering many people you are around may not be “gamblers” or “player’s”..But the idea of standing on a corner in vegas or at a casino is great..Also, get friends involved and ask them to help you and tell people they know..etc..
