Call me crazy, but I don’t think I believe so many companies are exiting the US market. I don’t think I’m buying it anymore.

Some of you think it makes sense for their investors… I don’t. If I live in the UK and and I’m invested in a UK company that has no business presence in the US, then I don’t think I really care what US law says. I don’t expect the company I’m invested in to lose 60% market value and 70% of their customers the day after a law in the US passes – and we are talking about an unenforceable law where the consequences are far from obvious.

I’ll tell you what makes sense.

Freak out the day after a goofy unenforceable law in another country is passed. Close all US player accounts. Delete all affiliate mapping information.

A few weeks later… now that legal teams have had time to go over everything… decide that the decision to stop accepting US players was hasty. Reinstate all accounts. Email the entire database and tell them to come back. (They will.) The stock price recovers. Sorry affiliates, we thought the affiliate data wasn’t needed, so it was deleted.

That scenario makes a ton of sense if I’m a UK investor in a UK company. They likely didn’t lose marketshare because their players will come back. We know americans gamble. Their stock price rebounds. The stock prices would have never taken such losses if they had said they are unclear how the law would affect them. (Which is true) What they lose is needing to pay affiliate percentages in a rather mature and saturated market. Obviously, here’s the question…

If US player accounts are ever reinstated, will those players still be mapped to affiliates?

    1. Lets hope this doesnt happen.

    2. Most of us have casino accounts so we will be able to identify whos doing this shit and we will dog them relentlessly.

I’m not even saying it was a concerted effort… I think it may have been an industry-wide freak out.

But… if I’m Partygaming right now, it starts looking awful attractive to come back. After all, whoever comes back first will certainly gain noteriety and market share.

If someone sets the precedent that affiliate data is removed, that will make it easier on others.

This law… when you really look at it, gives problems to banks, not casinos in non US countries. The wire act wasn’t changed… if they were legal before (which I always believed), then they are still legal.

I don’t think this is anywhere near over.

    I agree… nowhere near over.

Also – I have had some limited discussions with one of the aff programs who ensures me that even if they stop US players, when they come back – they will most certainly be in my aff account.
