Regarding casinos vs. hosting I find there’s more competition in the host industry.
It is only an indicator, but it is a clue
Online Casino
1,283,715 searchs in Overture for April 2006
60.700.000 results in googleWeb Hosting 1,701,450 searchs in Overture for April 2006
747.000.000 results in googleMay 24, 2006 at 2:59 pm #693081AnonymousInactiveI don’t know which industry is the most competitive or which is the easiest, but I do know that I am interested in, not to say passionate about gambling and eveything it brings along.
Even if gambling is 10 times for competitive than porn, I will be more succesful in it because I won’t hate putting so much time in it…
But feel free to pcik your industry the way you want though.
:hehe:May 24, 2006 at 5:46 pm #693098AnonymousInactivevilla, i’m well aware of those sorts of stats, but the number of returned pages in Google isn’t a very good indicator of how competitive an industry is or is not. It may be a starting point, but you really have to look at the strength of the sites that are ranking for those terms.
The Overture searches is a decent place to start, but if you add together gambling terms vs. hosting terms, gambling far outweighs them (of course Overture’s numbers can’t be completely trusted as there are plenty of us checking our search results on a daily basis and artificially inflating these numbers).
Overture searches (April):
1,678,000 Web Hosting
795,000 Web Hosting Provider
409,000 Hosting
222,000 Domain Hosting

I know that you have a deep understanding about how the Internet and SE’s works.
Overture vs. Google is only a clue.Onto the number of Google returned pages, I agree that it is not an indicator about how strong the competence is.
60.700.000 results for online casino, don’t means that all those pages are from related sites.
Maybe millions of them are from unrelated sites (boards, local newspapers, legal, financial, boards etc) with the given keyword in the text.May 24, 2006 at 7:44 pm #693108AnonymousInactiveThe casino industry is the most profitable by far, followed by porn.
The higher the profit, the fiercer the competition.
There may be lots of hosting companies, but they are not looking to make the sort of money you can make in this industry, so they do not invest the time to learn how to compete to the extent that people in the more profitable industries do.
Therefor, even if the numbers of competitors are larger, their marketing skills are not as honed and the industry will be easier to break into.
