Yes I am a newbie. I have been into this gambling industry too long not to use my knowledge. So my site is half finished but I have began promoting the site with good success. Page rank is bogus so I will not even go there. This could be a secret question but what is the ideal page demensions? is there any linux pros at this forum that would be fun. I need some link exchanges for my online gambling portal. The people I contacted just ignored me but I do have good news i just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance. Greek39 from Canada eh!
P.S I have one casino and half a web site
August 29, 2005 at 2:46 am #671893AnonymousInactiveI like my page at 750 wide and centered, because it can be viewed at various resolutions.
As far as link exchanges go, I think a lot of webmasters are skeptical of exchanging links with a gambling site.
I would find a list of free directories and submit them there.
Thanks for the Geico ad, too.

August 29, 2005 at 6:03 am #671904AnonymousInactiveYes … 750 to 760 wide seems to be a popular size.
I think that it came from the old 800×600 screen resolution size …but now I think it’s becausse although nearly everyone has sexy 19″ monitors and much high resolutions … they are surfing with 3 or 4 windows at anyone time …
(or is that just me ?)
:la-de-da:Anyway … 750 – 760 wide seems to work well …

August 30, 2005 at 12:33 am #671947AnonymousInactiveThanks for the help. I am debating on keeping the site 1000 wide. I have a 17 inch and my site seems to look fine. With people going bigger I just take the risk. thanks
August 30, 2005 at 12:52 am #671951AnonymousInactive800 x 600 is still the lowest common denominator when designing a web site…there are still a large number of people out there with smaller screens sizes. Think laptops and people in 3rd world countries that can’t upgrade as easily. 1024 x 768 is a popular size, but you have to design to the lowest common denominator.
August 30, 2005 at 3:21 am #671971AnonymousInactiveHey greek, have you considered using an expanadable layout? If you use tables, you could set the width to 100% or 90% or something. This would fill up the entire screen, regardless of how big the monitor is. If you use a fixed width greater than 750 (i.e. if you use 1000, like you are considering), then you risk annoying those people who have smaller monitors. I absolutely hate it when I have to scroll horizontally to read a page.
If you look at this page (near the middle of the page), you will notice that 25% of the population still uses a screen size of 600 x 800. The number is shrinking each year, but I don’t think I would design a site without taking this 25% into account. If 25% of your visitors leave your site immediately because it’s too hard to use, you could stand to lose a lot of money….
My 2 cents.
