Does anyone know why the Video Poker page on DMOZ is not indexed by Google??? This category shows up in Google’s directory from the RDF dump from before my site was added, so it knows this page exists. There are tons of links to this page on the web. Why isn’t it in Google?

My DMOZ link isn’t worth a fart in the wind if Google refuses to acknowledge its existence. :banger: :flush:

Check and see if its showing in your sitemaps account. link:http://www.website.com on google only shows a fraction of inbound links.

DMOZ recently changed its canonical URL from http://dmoz.org/ to http://www.dmoz.org/, so Google is now re-resolving all the URL’s there. Sometimes pages on a website get lost when a site “fixes” its URL. (DMOZ used to be available at both URL’s, but only recently 301’ed all of its URL’s to the www. version.)

Like most things related to both Google and DMOZ though, there’s not much you or I can do about it, so it’s probably not worth stressing out about. Nice to see Google finally update the Google directory though.

A week or two after I submitted my sitemap to Google, it was showing 67 external links to my site. About 2 weeks ago, they suddenly disappeared and it has been showing me zero external links ever since.

That’s a little concerning, but Google must know that there are external links to my site because the keyword analysis is literally perfect:

    google-keywords.gif

It wouldn’t know what keywords external sites use to link to mine, if it wasn’t aware of those external links in the first place, so I’m hoping that the display of zero inbound links is just temporary.

But the Video Poker category on DMOZ is not new, so why shouldn’t it be indexed by Google?

When searching Google with this query:

    site:dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Guides/Video_Poker/

…it returns nothing. But if I back up a level:

    site:dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Guides/

it shows the other 2 subcategories, Reviews and Instructional Systems. It’s as if the Video Poker category doesn’t exist.

I wouldn’t pay any attention to anything Google tells you about your backlinks. They deliberately withhold linking information from webmasters so that they don’t try to manipulate their results. No one knows what criteria Google uses to show you your backlinks, either in their search or their webmaster tools.
