Could be good timing for Frank to introduce his Bill around the middle of the month. Remember, Our politicians don’t do anything wrong (or at least they might not want to admit it). But if they have to repeal the UIG Bill in order to be complient with the WTO. This is as “Opt Out” or a way for them to “Save Face”. We cannot expect WTO to act against China sincerely as long as Uncle Sam is giving them the Middle Finger in regards to I-Gambling.
Believe me as a software programmer no one in the world abuses our intellectual property more then China, India, and some Former Soviet Republics. Copying code is what these guys do, and its ridiculas. Its like taking you favorite novel changing the color and switching a few words around and calling it your own. It happens all the time in that part of the world.
If anything gives our Legislators ammo to repeal the UIG this will.
April 9, 2007 at 7:26 pm #733408AnonymousGuestHi all,
ya well I like how they mentioned our disregard to WTO rulings …. to be fair-minded. Goes to show either CNN is incompetent or the govt’s puppet.
pick your poison.
April 9, 2007 at 7:38 pm #733415vladcizsolMemberWhen Ted Turner ran CNN it was a viable new source. Now that Summer Redstone is in the drivers seat they are only marginally better then the purely fascist Rupert Murdoch and Fox.
I wish we as Americans still had a legitimate source for Network news, but those days seem to be gone. It’s either right wing propoganda (Fox,CNN,Clear Channel) or just “Entertainment” news with no substance (Ohhh who got voted off American Idol? News at 11)
April 9, 2007 at 8:54 pm #733432AnonymousGuestYa its sad when the best news sources (fair-minded) … are found on the comedy channel.

April 9, 2007 at 10:54 pm #733455AnonymousInactiveJon Stewart and Colbert Report are basically the ONLY news shows that I ever watch. Their credibility is extremely high in my eyes, even more than local news stations. They don’t accept news-vertisements or any of that bullshit just to make an extra buck, and everything that most people view as “common sense” is scrutinized as it should be.
I’m sure you’ve all seen it before, but Daniel Negreanu seemed to enjoy my posting of how hypocritical the US can be:

I think somebody here even pointed out how crazy it is that the chief of the ecommerce committee explained “the internets” as a “series of tubes”
What a fucking joke.
April 9, 2007 at 11:25 pm #733458AnonymousInactiveAh yes, the internets! And still I don’t get the mails until Tuesday, not enough lottery balls pushing those nasty pokerchips through!

April 12, 2007 at 5:13 am #733711AnonymousInactiveThe model for the news is:
Ads first, news second.
Just as print magazines did many years ago, the news shows started to target specific audiences.
It’s all about keeping your base going, so you can sell your ad space at a premium. News is just part of the product.
Truly fair and balanced news doesn’t work, because people love to indoctrinate themselves. They want to watch/listen/read the familiar and that which comforts them. So, for instance, radicals–left or right–choose media that goes along those lines.
Just remember, all news sources play to their audiences.
